Default Time to Cowboy Down

Since June 1st, Millar is below The Mendoza Line hitting .187 with 1 HR and just 6 RBI’s. His ineffectiveness at the plate especially showed this past weekend when he struck out three times on Saturday (twice looking) and was held hitless the entire series.

For some reason, Blue Jays management is willing to give every minor league pitcher the chance to play in the show, but they're apprehensive about calling up position players from the Las Vegas 51's. There is a wealth of talent in Las Vegas that is just waiting to get the call; players like Buck Coats, Randy Ruiz and even Travis Snider are all viable options to take Kevin Millar’s place on the roster.

So Wells and Ellsbury take the weekend off (one game for Els), Doc proves (as if anyone didn't know) that he's a legit ace, Bucholtz showed he's a player - could these be the main pieces of a trade?
(I only bother to know spellings of Jays players)

To Boston:
Wells
Doc

To Toronto:
Buscholtz
Ellsbury
+ draft pick/SS prospect

Maybe include Scutaro for Lowrie?

I doubt it, personally I think Doc could be moved to Philly.

Interesting; but I would think the next Jay to be released outright or sent down is Dellucci. Millar is a veteran on the team I bet he finishes the year with the Jays.

Dooch should be gone, but if we're giving up on the season (read:trading Doc) then I'd like to see some fresh faces.

Millar can go yuk it up on Boston's bench.

Why bring up a young player to take a guy's role (Millar) who only plays once every 3 to 4 days?

A prospect is better off playing every day at triple A, then sitting on the bench at Major league level.

he's not going to a divisional rival unless the package is ridiculously good. And that one isn't good enough. If he goes, it's next year before the deadline.

Howabout Randy Ruiz?
(preseason primer: http://mopupduty.com/index.php/randy-ruiz-profile/)

He's not a kid, 28 years old or so, and would have the same role as Millar but if he exceeds expectations (read: keeps up his current pace) then he might keep the job for next year.

If he flames out, no loss. Start fresh next year (or in September).

This half-rebuild half-patchjob teambuilding isn't working.

Yep that would be a good idea, Since Millar plays as the backup first baseman and that's the role which Ruiz plays for Las Vegas.

If Rios gets moved a player like Buck Coats could get recalled.

I don't know....a legit CF and a legit starter, maybe plus a prospect. How much better of a package do we think we're going to land.

I remain ardent that the Jays can't "win" a Halladay trade, its just a matter of getting what we can now that he wants out.

Takes the weekend off??? Both have been very ill.

Wells was penciled into the lineup on Sunday but Cito removed him once Wells came to the ballpark and Cito had a look at him.

I'm hoping that's cover for benching Wells because he's awful.

There were a few hits this weekend that Rios tracked down that would have been doubles against Wells (IMO).

Also, I haven't seen anything about Ellsbury going to the DL.

Outfielder Vernon Wells missed his third consecutive game yesterday because of a stomach virus.

In his absence, Alex Rios again was switched from right field to centre field with Jose Bautista taking over in right.
Never said anything about Ellsbury going to the DL.. just day-to-day.

Jacoby Ellsbury is being held out of the lineup for a second straight game Saturday.
Ellsbury has the flu, so this is nothing to be worried about. Rocco Baldelli is playing in his place.

Jacoby Ellsbury-OF - Red Sox Jul. 17 - 6:29 pm et
Jacoby Ellsbury fell ill and was scratched from Friday's lineup.
Rocco Baldelli will man center field and bat eighth as the Red Sox kick off a series with the Blue Jays. Ellsbury should be fine with a day of rest.

Someone said it (60-day), must have edited their post because I don't see it now.

Or I'm an idiot.

Even odds.

Stuff like this doesn't even shock me anymore because a lot of baseball minds could see this coming a mile away.

He was already on the decline when he signed that big contract - which is a bit worrisome to begin with being in the prime years of his life. But overall, people who are built like him (football player, stocky body type) almost always peak and decline VERY quickly, because their limbs can't keep up with the ware and tear.

ESPN.com's Keith Law hears from multiple sources that the SI report [above] is "bogus."

Gozer, if the Jays do trade Halladay it will be for more than that and won't include a draft pick as those can't be traded in MLB.

Sportsnet was reporting it last night. Probably means it was bogus.
