Good result. Canada played with only half a team as they rested those with bruises and yellow cards.

Quarters not til Saturday!!!!! Who the heck scheduled this tournament?

I don't know about you, but I'd rather not have the QF's scheduled within 2 days of the end of the group stage. Now that would be idiotic. If you want people to attend these games and watch them on TV in countries not involved in the matches it makes way more sense to play them over the weekend.

Not 2 days.. maybe 4 or 5?

This is EIGHT DAYS! It really drags the tournament out.

Well there are 7 days between weekends so I'm not really sure what can be done about that.

Yeah but can't play every game in weekends. Semis will be midweek.

Canada plays Honduras in the Saturday quarterfinal in Philadelphia.

They want as many weekend games as possible, and you can't really blame them. Especially at the QF stage it's hard to sell tickets to a mid week game that nobody knows who will be playing in. At least with a weekend game you can get people out for a double header that gives them a decent idea of who they'll be seeing well in advance. You have to remember where this tournament is being played, you don't just schedule the games and wait for the stadium to fill, it takes extra effort to make games appealing.

Not sure if anyone else is watching this game, but did they give that penalty for a handball? I'm watching a spanish broadcast so I haven't heard otherwise, if so that's a shockingly poor job of officiating.

The call for a penalty shot was pretty iffy as well.

That game reminded me why I can't watch moderately to unskilled central and south american teams play. Little to no skill on display, but all the requisite diving and time wasting BS.

The penalty call was brutally weak. Honduras doing everything in their power to waste away the time. The ref blowing the play dead with the "injured" Honduran near the end was also really poor judgement. Really well played game by Canada though and they were a post away from tying it in the last 5 mins.

Really not impressed by the tactics of the Honduran team...but then I hate all the diving in football. They really need to fix that...or do true football nations not care and consider it an intrinsic part of the game?

Inept reffing at this level doesn't care. This is why Central American teams go to the World Cup and get throttled.

Gerba was pretty quiet and Hutchinson missed a few good opportunities.

Can't really fault the effort of the Canadians, in general. They did what they could.

BS penalty, from a typical BS central american referee. Central american teams know how to play that way. Waste time at every opportunity, knowing that spineless, attention seeking central american referee's won't do a thing about it.

More Canadian skill on this team then in the past few years, and deserved a better fate today.

This is actually one of the major reasons I don't mind seeing the US do well at the WC or internationally (living in the US I'd often prefer they do poorly due to the idiotic 'we rule at soccer' crap that it creates). At least the US team has skilled players, generally avoids the diving and time wasting, and plays with some guts.

CAN can blame the refs and the diving, but you have to score a goal vs. a tiny country like Honduras.

Well to be fair Honduras has a much more accomplished side than Canada, a win would have been an upset. Tiny or not, they've achieved way better results than Canada over the last few years.

After watching these Canada soccer games I'm kinda glad that we'll never make it to the World Cup again. Soccer is such an infuriating sport to watch when you have serious interest in a team. Honestly watching those Honduran players rolling around on the feild made my blood boil! Especially when I've spend my entire life watching hockey players play with serious injuries and not complaining a bit!

FIFA has a much higher standard and doesn't tolerate that garbage. So if Canada one day does make the World Cup they'll be ok.

You see big tournaments like World Cup 2006, Euro 2008, Confederations Cup played without incident. We often complain about the big countries like Portugal, Italy, Brazil, Argentina diving.. they don't come anywhere close to what you saw today.

CONCACAF is a joke and their refs are always biased towards Central America. Canada just has to be as good as USA. USA beats these crap countries regardless of cheating and bad refs.

you know Honduras might be the higher ranked side, but I don't think there is any way anyone could say with a straight face they were the better side in the game today, they won on a pretty ugly officiating call. Aside from that and a couple defensive breakdowns, i thought Canada dominated the play.
