Honestly, I have a hard time beleiving there is ANY excuse for this kind of
neglect!

I thought there were laws in place to prevent the mentaly challeged from having kids.

Whats the problem? Kid looks like he had a blast!
Our navy should recruit him, when was the last time they sailed 12 kms without a mishap?

Bah, it was just a harmless life lesson. Now that kid will always know the difference between a car and a boat, it's certainly cheaper than buying flash cards.

The kid is unbelievably lucky, how could parents not be watching a 3 year old when he's near the water.

Indeed. Perhaps he grows up to be the World's premier floating truck racer.

They're the ones that gave him a starting shove. Packed him a sandwich and sent him on his way.

I saw this on the news ... they said he snuck out of the tent when everybody was still sleeping. I don't know, this sounds like something that could happen to a lot of people. The chances of that ever happening again with the same outcome would have to be minuscule.

Seems not that long ago that our parents would let us play outside unsupervised for hours, time at the lake was treated with an "If you go close to the water, make sure you take your lifejacket" and things were generally more relaxed both for the parents and the kids.
These days if a kid falls down and scrapes his knee, the parent is looked at as neglecting their child.

When did all of this change?

Its a self perpetuating loop. No one wants to be considered negligent, so they dote on their kids every second of every day and as such everyone else has to as well as the standard of negligence gets steadily raised.

Seems like an innocent incident, unfortunate that it happened and very lucky the kid is okay but hardly the worst parents ever.

Yeah, it happens. When I was younger (like 2 years old), I ventured off from my parents at the beach and followed my sister into the water... kept walking even when my head was below water (sister is older then me)... sister screamed, parents came rushing after me... I wouldn't call it neglect, these things happened.

It happened when sexual predators started to grab our children.
