All kidding aside,
I really just wanted to warn people about the impending storm.
For me, there's not a lot I can do to prevent hail damage, but I have covered some stuff with poly. and moved a few pots into the house. Everything else will just get shredded. Thus the 2009 "write-off"
.....IF it happens.

YES!
....That is one good thing about this rain. They drown very easily. I have had the worst infestation this year too, everything covered in sticky aphid pooh.

If we get hail today/tonight, I will consider the 2009 gardening season a complete and utter write off!!!
......fingers crossed.

The conditions have really put a lot of strain on agriculture across Western Canada as well. Unlike Gardeners, prairie farmers are probably hoping for hail.

Yup, I would imagine so. Hail is insured, no rain, not really insured.

I have no real sources, but I have heard that hail insurance is a "less than break even" scenerio for farmers.
Unless their crops are already written off, I would think they would prefer the rain before seeing their crops destroyed by hail.
Although, Judging from what I've seen on the news lately, any rain they get now is likely a week too late. What an incredibly stressful livelyhood it must be.

Good. My roof is due for new shingles soon.
The flower beds will have to suffer I guess...

Lettuce, carrots, potatoes, peas, raspberries have done very well. Some of my tomatoes are doing okay. Basil did terribly.

I was going to add something to this thread but I am not sure what the main topic of this thread is. Is the topic weather, gardens or proper english?

Good for you. You must have a good location. My tomatoes are not doing well at all. I propogate from seed and usually have positive results. This year I've got 2 survivours out of 18 that I started, and the 2 I do have are stunted, like everything else.
....next year...

You should see my beans. They're... sad. Very sad.
I also start from seed. Makes food cheap.

To deviate even further from the thread topic....
^^^^ Do you ever think that the seeds you are buying are junk?
I've started (the last couple years) to harvest seeds from my own produce/plants/flowers. If something grows well, I will make sure to harvest seed from that plant. Ofcourse you can't do this with everything, but I've got a couple of flowers etc.. that are 3rd generation from the original.
