Yes, I realize that I am an ingrate.

Sure you can. Begonias are delicious. So are pansies, but I prefer begonias. They're quite fruity tasting.

Remember Garfield's advice? Stop and eat the daisies.

I'm not a fan of flowers or cards. I prefer gestures. Like when I get in my car in the morning and hubby filled it with gas because I fell asleep watching TV the night before.
If I want flowers, and I love to have them in the house, I get them myself or cut them from my flower beds. I just think they're a silly gift.

I agree that cards are stupid. I suppose they do have a place such as the post above about friends far away acknowledging a death, but showing up to xmas dinner with a card for every family member is useless. I feel a bit bad saying that because some of my family members give me cards, and I'll never tell them it's not appreciated, but the fact is that the minute I get home I toss them.

My family re-gives cards from when we were kids. It's fun and costs nothing.

I'm in the 5%. A couple of weeks ago it was my wedding anniversary... which I had completely forgot about. So anyways, I wake up at 3 in the morning thinking about it. I quietly get out of bed and get dressed and sneak out of the house to go to the 24 hour Shoppers Drug Mart to buy a card. Get back home at 4 am with card in hand and signed and slide back into bed knowing that all is good and my ass in no longer grass.

mine and 4x4's idea of a cleverly wrapped wedding gift.
It's a coor's light tshirt from a beer box with money wrapped inside using duct tape.
We both despise shopping of any kind, we both despise buying/receiving gifts, AND...

We also despise buying/recieving cards. LOL!!

Sometimes a good card is appropriate...
 "Sorry I ****ed your sister."

"My job is more important to me than your stupid birthday, but at least I cared enough to get you this card and put $100 inside it."

"I swear to God she told me she was 18, your honor."

LOL yes...we lamented on how it actually looked once we were done...4x4 did the wrapping...and it was alcohol induced shockingly..but considering who we were giving the gift to, we knew they'd find it extra hilarious so, we left it.

Flowers rely on the same principle as the peacock's tail - it's because they have no useful purpose that they work as a gift. You are saying to the recipient: "Look, I am such a mighty hunter and provider that I can waste resources on things that have no other purpose than the ornamental."
Cards, on the other hand, are diabolic harbingers of the zombie apocalypse. Unfortunately, if you're going out with a woman who is pro-card, it's really hard to get across your anti-card bias without looking like an unfeeling cad. I made the mistake once of throwing out a card and still having it on the top of the garbage when the giver of said card came over and saw it; I think I would have gotten a better reaction if I'd pushed her dear granny in front of a bus.

Had to bump this thread after shelling out $20 for cards the other day. I have a nice little run where it goes Mom's birthday (Dec.21), Christmas (Dad like a card), Sister's birthday (Jan. 7). They all like cards so I don't mind, but I hate cards and nobody seems to get this. People get me cards every year when I specifically ask them not to and it pisses me off. My birthday is the same as my mom's, so I tend to get about a dozen cards all at once. Thankfully my girlfriend respects my issues and views towards cards.

Why buy? Just create your own cards. I have a template here for you
Just cross out Nathan and add the person's name and Ryan with your name.

Every year, there are 2.65 billion holiday cards sold in the U.S. That's enough to fill a football stadium field 10 stories high!
