I always use YYYY.MM.DD - probably because I did a bunch of international work and there is never any confusion over the day where 07.06.2009 is July 6 or June 7 depending on your country. I never had anyone question what day 2009.07.06 was.

The Canadian government actually went so far as to set YY/MM/DD as the standard back in the 1990s sometime. I don't recall if it was actually a bill, or just some sort of federal standard. Fat lot of good that it did though since everyone has gone along their merry old way and continued to use whatever format they wanted anyway.
That's the problem with society ... nobody adheres to rules. They just do whatever they feel like without regards to rules and order. Why, it's a wonder we haven't degenerated into complete chaos, what with all these DD/MM/YY and MM/DD/YY blasphemers that are around.
