See personally I don't care that he is Canadian, I just don't like him. Watching him choke and fall apart for the majors is a joy of mine.

Not sure how he folded there as he played better than any of the other contenders today.
He made some great shots to get in contention when he really shouldn't have been as close as he was.

Wow, what did he do to you?

He fires an eagle and is tied for the lead. Promptly goes on to finish with two costly bogey's and three pars. It looked awfully familiar to me.

Weir's still in contention more than Ames who always seem to be happy with 10th in every tournament.

Ames is probably just happy to be raking in a million bucks a year at age 45. Heck only five more years to the senior tour. Mikey well maybe he has a couple of more shots at the Canadian Open before he is done.

Ames has the game to contend though. He's huge off the tee and putts pretty well. He just doesn't care.
Wish we could combine the two guys and make an uber-player :P

The bogey on 15 is far from a choke considering how tough the hole was and what everyone else shot. The bogey on 16 wasn't great but it wasn't as though he had the tournament in his hands and lost it with stupid decisions.
He may have been tied for the lead but Glover and Barnes were still in much better positions than he was at that point.
I guess it sucks for him that he is so good that he got that Eagle as now people will ignore what really happened and just go for the cheap "he choked" again angle that isn't true at all.

To say the least...especially when Glover birdied it 20 minutes later.
Mickelson has more misses/braincramps/meltdowns on the last 3 or 4 holes (in US Opens) than any other golfer I can recall. And it usually involved him being in contention or in the lead. Today i thought he played really well until 15.
He has had some bad 4th rounds in US Opens though...no one can deny that.

LOL. Not a bad jump.
I used to really like Duval when he was at his peak. His unexplained downfall is ranked up there with some of the most incredible in sports.

Yeah, his accomplishment at the Open was the big story for me. In fact i was rooting for him to win. Would have made for a fairy tale ending.

Was it unexplained? I could have sworn he had vertigo.

Not sure if it is the fact he is a lefty, from Ontario, Mormon, or just the fact he won a major before I did but I have never liked him. It also bugs me how everyone in Canada thinks he is this golf god when he is a dime a dozen in the big picture of the golf world. Even when he wins he never does it in a convincing fashion just barely beating his opponents, but I guess a win is a win.
Oh and don't even get me started on that annoying little half swing before every shot, like WTF is that all about?

That happened to Hackett when he played for the Flyers. Apparently Duval did suffer from that, but I never heard it as the reason for his decline... just one of many factors - loss of confidence, injuries, vertigo, personal problems, etc...
I guess it was the incredible decline in play... he seemed to be at the top of the sport and then unheard of.
This US Open I would have been happy if Hefty (for his wife, although the ESPN love-in over that story line would have been horrible) would have won or Duval...

Oh that's just mean!
My understanding of Duval is he never wanted to admit or believe he was the best golfer in the world and that's when his problems started for him. Confidence declined, his body changed (in a good way but must have effected his golf game in a bad way) and the vertigo started. It's really too bad because he was one of my favorites back in the day, who didn't want a paid of those Oakleys and look like Duval?
Being 38 or 39 I think it is too late for him to be that golfer anymore but he can definitely find himself top 50 in the world if he keeps it up and maybe win some smaller tournaments.
Also is it just me or is anyone else annoyed by Miller and the NBC crew's love fest for Tiger? I understand he is the number one golf in the world and one of the only reasons half the viewers tune in but come on. Tiger is 0-39 (40 now) in majors he isn't leading yet no matter what happened like bogey on number one they kept telling everyone he was ready to shot 62-63. For some reason it was annoying me and I love Tigger.

As annoying as it can be, if he makes a couple makeable putts over the last 5-6 holes he's probably lifting a silver trophy tonight. If Tiger got to -3 the pressure would have been immense on the rest of the field, at the worst he'd have forced a playoff.

I realize he had a chance but the way they talk is like he is the only one who possibly could post a score like that even when history shows he is not that guy. The feeling I got was he could be 22 back with one hole to play and they would still be talking about his chances to win if the guy scored a 26 on the last hole.
I just think they spend too much time on Tiger and that is the reason the average fan doesn't know the rest of the field.

Agreed, but it seems to be what a pretty large percentage of the fan base wants.
On Sunday there was a massive group of people following Tiger, the only way I got to see him was by getting to a few holes 5-6 groups before he got there. He was largely out of the mix, but people still wanted to watch him way more than they wanted to watch anyone else. Mickleson had a pretty big following, but I strolled up to the rope at the 12th fairway parallel to his ball and had plenty of space around me. Vijay was a couple groups behind Tiger, and by the time he came through most of the holes were virtually deserted.
I think the broadcasters would be well served by pushing more players, they're in a risky place now should Tiger miss a lot of time again.

I love golf, playing moreso than watching it, and frankly I won't watch anything other than a major tournament unless Tiger is in the hunt/lead.
Even when I was watching the US Open over the weekend, I really wanted to see Tiger and Phil and to a lesser extent Duval.
It actually bothers me when jabronis win tournaments, and i'm not talking about one and dones like Weir. When Weir won the Masters he had a really good season. Hopefully Lucas Glover uses this to propel himself into the elite, or the "very good" and doesn't end up on the Nike tour in a few years.
