Yup, maybe a massive playoff too!

Barnes and Glover are both melting down. Woods with a bogey is now 4 back. Weir only 3. If he could have sunk a few makeable putts yesterday...

74 is definitely not 'crumbling' on this course. It's not a great score, but if you look at the board it's far from terrible. If you miss one shot wide here you drop 2 strokes, Weir did that a couple times yesterday and that cost him.
|
The course hardly even matters. It's something Weir has done a lot during his career.

Not disputing that, just saying that yesterday's score wasn't a 'crumbling'. He had 3 bad holes, he hardly fell apart.

Well not Barnes like but atypical for Weir. Even this round today is like he usually plays. He hangs in there for awhile and you figure he could make a birdie or two. Likely he does the opposite and falls right out but hey so far he has looked solid so who knows. Maybe the stars will align again.

Barnes should have thrown a strimmer in as one of his clubs.
Shaping up to be a great finish. I think Fisher at the moment is playing the best golf and could steal it.

It's sure looking like a steal it tourney. Tiger and Phil mounting no charge so far. Both in range just like the Masters but that's about it. Any of the rest of them could win. Heck the way they are playing with so many bad shots if any of them could have a couple of birdies coming in with the rest pars I think they would be a winner. Typed that too soon. Here comes Phil to scare them. Glover isn't going to make a putt with all the tentative efforts he is puttiing in.

What a collapse by Barnes.
On that note, Lefty's tied for the lead now. Let's see how he handles all the pressure given his past at this tournament and the other situation he's facing right now.
Too bad Weir couldn't have bared down yesterday.

Smart putt by Phil on that downhill effort. Just eased it down there and took his par. Time for some conservative golf. Sure nice to see Duval having a great tourney for the first time in who knows how long. Mikey doing his usual. Geez Phil get the putter together. LOL that was a long par putt. Go Duval go.

He is not playing in this weeks US Open but still golf news, I guess.

Looks like Glover. Should have a 2 stroke lead coming home.

Yeah he shoots three or maybe four over and wins? A weird US Open to be sure. Duval out of it. Only a bogey by him and a Barnes birdie could do him in. Well unless he really blew it.

Starting? It was 6 years ago.
Phil doing his best Phil impression coming in second for the 5th time.

Yeah well he is a Canadian so even when it's staring me in the face I keep hoping he can pull it out one more time even if the evidence is piling up that he won't. Yes Phil did his usual. Mikey did his usual. The no names choked but the one who choked the least got the win.
Best thing was Duval. The guy has suffered enough. About time the golf gods took it easy on the guy.

First top 10 finish in 7 years...ranked 882 in the world.
What a massive fall from where he was 10 years ago.

That's Phil for you. Folds under the pressure when in contention for a major. Has the record now with 5 seond place finishes in the US Open.

I don't know that the final round was really weird, I think it was a matter of the course finally being able to show its teeth and the greens being virtually unreadable. It would have been stunning to see somebody shoot a -4, in fact only 10 guys were in the red today. Glover took advantage when the course was vulnerable and then did enough to hang on.
Overall though certainly a weird tournament, it's a shame that the weather was such a factor. That course could have really posed a test for four days. I'm going to need to put a lot of work into my game before I consider grabbing a tee time.

Pretty tough to say "One and done" when Weir has 8 PGA wins.
Granted, only one of those is in the last 5 years, but he has been playing pretty solid golf for a decade now.

Talking about major wins. He always makes a ton of cash. Close enough in a bunch of tourneys to rake in the dough. Heck he might win another regular event as he has been in position but another major-- I don't think he has it in him.
