You guys are seriously undervaluing the resale market for these things. So long as they are in good condition you should have zero trouble selling your 3G for $250+...

an unlocked, cracked phone in decent condition should hold some value since you can simply take your Razr plan/simcard and transfer it to the iPhone and have it work instantly without anyone knowing that it has happened.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this a bit more. The more I do, and the more I look around at other prices, the more I think $299 is a more realistic number. Especially a 16GB.

Edit: Also, I'm trying to think of a way to say the word "more" one more time. Oh hey, never mind, that works. Two more times, in fact. Oh, and a third!

Another piece of good news: Those snazzy Apple earbuds that came out last year work for the 3GS (they didn't work with the 3G).

Got my 3Gs. Went to a Rogers Plus and they announced that they would NOT be processing any iPhone to iPhone contracts today because they have to be processed over the phone and the phone center is not answering. I almost got out of line AGAIN except I quickly realized they meant 3G to 3Gs. Unlocked 1G with no contract didn't count. Once I got to the head of the line I was out of there in 3 minutes.

I'm having fun now. Transferring 20GB of music and video over USB 1. Phone should be updated by Thursday.

hey guys,

jailbreak tools are now out for touch g1 and g2, iphone 3g and original. Unlocking is also out for the original iphone. Links to the tools are available on the dev team blog. Both windows and osx tools are available. Gotta wait a bit longer for ultrasnow (to unlock iphone 3g). Jailbreaking/unlocking 3g s will probably take a while since it's new.

I know that there have been a ton of similar thread but i need to replace my BB 8830.. trying to decide wheter to stay with bell and get th BB tour when it comes out in the next few weeks or go and get a iPhone 3gS.

I use my BB mainly for business quite a bit of email but do some Facebook, bit of surfing etc.

I know the BB and the tour will certaily do everything i need but do like the iPhone for the little i have played with it.. Will it be a decent business tool for me or am i going to want my BB back in a month.

a couple of other questions:

My work computer has all of my contacts 400 plus and is outlook. i am sure it will sync with the calender contacts etc. but all of my music is at home on our mac.. Is it possible to sync at the two places. I am not too interested in and cant really put all of my library on my work laptop.

I was just talking from my persective.

If you can get a new phone (1/4 the GB) for 199 with a better camera and all that jaz. Then there is no way I would pay more for the older generation phone than you can get for the new phone. Normally used should get you a 40% markdown depending on age and condition. Also, considering you can get a brand new old version phone for 99 (1/4 the gb) why would you pay more than that for a used phone - unless the space is really important.

To me the 99 dollar iPhone should kill the non unlocked market IMO - unless there are alot of people who dont want to sign contracts but still be tied to Rogers. I realize the Kijiji market spot price is crazy high, but that is from the old formula. The new 99 phone puts those phones out of economic reality IMO.

You're still focusing on people that are able to get subsidized phones, or are able to upgrade on their own. You need to remember there's a bunch of people out there who aren't able to upgrade, and who aren't able to get contract/subsidized phones.

If you can get a new phone for the subsidized $199, then you should absolutely do that. I think you'll have a hard time finding someone willing to "price match" against a subsidized price. I still have 2 years left on the 3 year contract I had to sign to get the phone - in other words, I'm still paying for the phone that I'm selling. Why would I resell it at a lower-than-subsidized-price? I'm not going to get a cheque from Apple to cover my costs.

The comparable price is the no-contract price, which is $700 for a 16GB 3GS. When viewed at that angle, $199 (or even $299) is more than a fair price for a used 16GB 3G.

Your office is probably using an Exchange server. Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure that you can pair the iPhone with an Exchange server (email, contacts, calendar, etc) while also having it setup to desktop-sync with your home computer (email, contacts, calendar, songs, etc).

I think you should be ok for syncing because syncing your music and syncing contacts are done in two different places. My calendar and contacts sync through mobileme, while my music syncs through itunes.

Yes, but you're silly enough to pay for MobileMe (thought that does allow you to use the new find my iPhone and remote wipe functionality).

For most people, that's not the case.

Works for me. I have my calendar, notes...ect synced with my work computer and my music, ringtones, photos, apps, videos synced at home. Don't use mobileme since it's pricy.

Worth the price of mobileme alone imo.

How do you like mobileme? I want to sync my home computer calendar with both of our phones and mm seems to be the simple solution. Anything else would be a bonus.

First off, if anybody has an iPhone and does not have mobileme, you need to read this story now.

On second thought, just read it ... it's a great story.

It was very buggy when it launched so it received a sh**storm of bad publicity. A few months in it worked like a charm though. I really like it (in fact I didn't even experience the initial bugs).

It really is a traditional apple product. There are other ways to do what you want and it will cost less. However, this would be the easiest and cleanest way to go about it in most cases. I have my home computer, work computer, iPhone and wife's iPod touch all linked together with it and it works beautifully. I love it when a friend asks if my wife and I are available and I can look at my phone calendar and know that I have both my schedule and my wifes schedule synced up and current. It's also great to have a colleague send me an email and my mail client (Mail) will extract his signature into a contact for me with the press of a button, and it will be sent to all my devices within a minute.

I'm not sure if you're using a mac or not. I've only ever used it with my macs at home and at work. I assume it works the same for PC's, but I admit I have no experience with it. I believe it does everything through outlook.

Great feedback. I have a mac laptop as the primary and an old pc downstairs. How do you have your work computer on it? Do you have to install something as my work would not allow that.

Now if only it could get my wife to put stuff in the computer and not write it on the wall calendar

Thanks again

If only they would do it with different email addresses, the last thing I need is another email address.

Actually here's a question, I'm trying to get an appointment at the genius bar, and it was saying "come back later". Now I get exactly ONE option for an appointment, which I can't make.

I called but the automated thing told me they can't do appointments over the phone.

So what, I just have to randomly keep trying hoping a different time slot shows up??
