Well that's gay. You could get around it though by looking at a county map, memorizing a land description and who owns that land...just make sure it's far enough away that the person hasn't been in UFA before. And then...voila! Good roundup, not that stuff that's no better than vinegar water!

Another way, that doesn't involve having to put on pants...

Okay, since there seem to be some smart plant killers on here....
I have annual bluegrass. A lot. Just sodded last fall, it was growing beautifully, then I start seeing the seed head thingy's, and it is some widespread. Don't know where it came from, but I understand it is hard to get rid of. Any suggestions?

Things labelled organic are safer. Hoo boy. That tells me right there you don't know enough about pesticides and plant growth in general to make a good judgement.
I highly suggest you read this article: http://www.renegadegardener.com/content/myth2009.htm
Question me, sure. Question Don Engebretson, well, good luck with that.

It was a simple reply to your assertion that lobbying got it done by commenting that there is no better lobbier out there than Monsanto. Fact of the matter is the ban was put in place based on scientific evidence (I would hope).
|
I'd love to believe that, but things like pyrethrin are extremely dangerous to aquatic life, and even to small children.
Know what stupid "organic" trend I've seen recently? Most plants make some amount of salicylic acid as an insecticide. So therefore, people have been spraying their plants with dissolved anacin tablets, in some sort of full-###### notion that putting even more of the stuff will really keep the insects away. Yeah, that's real thinking going on there.

I don't believe it is as simple as you make it out to be where a load of enviro-weenies or whatever they're called outlobbied Monsanto et al.
|
Did you know that golf courses are exempt from the pesticide ban?
Enviro-weenies in general have little actual horticultural experience.

Question a gardener (weenie)'s blog/website? Sure ... why not? And if you want to question my knowledge on plant growth and development ... go right ahead. Be my guest. Sure, you're the self proclaimed expert. Why don't you reference me a few scientific articles, I'll look them up and be more than happy to debate them with you. I'll refer to Taiz and Zeiger for my answers .... OK?
Here let me throw a link back at you by some fellow with a Dr in front of his name. He must be good and 100% correct because he's got an internet opinion. Let's call him Dr Weenie.

Your point? Or did you misread where I said "No".

Yes, I'm aware of that. Your point?
My original question was simple .... Why was it banned? Your answer was brillant pure science is that it was enviroweenies. I suggested and would hope that there is more to it than on the grounds of Monsanto being a lobbying superpower and that there might be aquatic concerns but all I'm getting is the pure science enviroweenie argument.

Well ... that ... ermm so brillant a point that I'll concede it to you.
Now ... have you any serious thoughts/speculation as to my question as to why Roundup was banned in Ontario. If the best reply you can give me is enviroweenies then thanks for your insight. And before you go misquoting me I have never said I had issues with Roundup, just am genuinely curious as to the science behind the decision.

Annual bluegrass is actually quite easy to control in a residential lawn. Begin by reducing irrigation frequency to limit seed germination and growth of the shallow rooted seedlings.
Secondly, cut at no less than 6 cm to promote perennial turf growth. This will reduce annual bluegrass seed germination by shading
If the timing is applicable, preemergent herbicides such as bensulide (Betasan) and chlorthal dimathyl (Dacthal) are very effective
Good luck

Oops, sorry...
You need a pesticide applicator's license to purchase or apply the products. Although I hate to advocate these type of companies, check with Nuti Lawn, Green drop... etc, regarding an application.
