If its going to be a problem, don't go full out all at once. Slowly ease yourself into their diet plan.

i could stand to lose about 15 lbs of insulation, so if i eased my way in to the diet, am i not slowing my potential progress? i have not priced it all out yet, but 10oz of halibut is close to $10, that's 2/3rds my daily budget!

I tried P90X but living in a basement suite with lower ceilings it make sit pretty tough to complete most of the exercises.

I'm not up to speed on their specific diet recommendations, but it is possible to exchange foods with slightly cheaper stuff.
Just make sure you're getting enough protein, and that you stay away from the bad carbs.

I'm looking to bulk up but when I go look at protein powder it's so darn confusing. There's Whey, some other stuff and Creatine and more. What are some good weight gaining protein powders that taste good and yet are not $500 dollars a scoop?

unfortunately there really isn't a healthy bulking powder that I know of but a natural whey protein would be the best bet and some natural foods with high calories such as walnuts etc.

For whey protein. BioX is by far the best tasting and the cheapest I have found. I would never consider another brand after using this stuff. It's just that good.
Should be available anywhere that sells the stuff or try online. When I get home I'll find a good site to order online for you.
I've never tried their weight gainers but the whey itself is fantastic. Personally If I wanted to put on weight I would take the whey and mix it with ice cream instead of using the gainer. Probably cheaper and better tasting.

Costco has a couple of brands. The one I have is Kaizen 100% Whey Isolate. At the time I bought it they had an instant rebate on it and I think I paid around $30 for 2Kg.

The ones that taste gross are generally soy based, and I'd stay away from all soy based protein products including protein bars, as soy can stimulate estrogen production or something like that.
EDIT: The stuff tastes pretty good. If you want to get a really smooth texture, trying using a little Bullet mixer.

100% true. Males should not use soy protein supplements for any reason. Soy may have health benefits in very small doses but don't use it as a replacement for protein entirely.

Yep, that is the stuff I got at Costco as well, I think that it only comes in Decadent Chocolate flavor.
As for the P90X diet plan, we aren't killing ourselves trying to follow it. Biggest thing for us was to cut down on the carbs, increase the protein (lots more chicken, fish and eggs) and eliminate all the junk (pop, chocolate bars, chips, etc).
We mainly use the Nutrition Guide as just that, a guide. There are some good recipes in there, but the important part to follow is the portion plan part. For example, Phase 1 Level 2, 7 servings of Protein, 3 servings of Dairy, 1 serving of Fruit, 4 servings of Vegetables, 1 Carb, 1 Fat, etc. If you stick to those guidelines, it will be a hell of a lot easier then following a meal plan, especially if you have a family.
We just finished Week 3 and are into the first Recovery Week. It has been huge commitment for us, but has been going really well.
If someone knows a site that can host a 396 MB PDF file, I will upload the Nutrition Guide there.
