				 CPHL Big News

A couple of you guessed correctly.
We are switching sims starting next season. Since the CPHL started we have used the FHL sim.

We will now be switching to a newer product called the SimonT Hockey Simulator.

Why are we doing this?

Simply put this new sim offers a far richer overall experience with a number of advancements and features.

Check out some of this nifty stuff:
- Full Play-by-Play option lets you read exactly what happens in the game
- The ability to simulate playoff for far farm clubs
- Coach can pull goalie at the end of game
- Use of the new NHL rules (Sudden Death / Shootout)
- The ability to setup your professional and farm lineups for the next 10 games
- Specific coach strategy for each game included in lineups
- The ability to compile player's stats to know there career stats.
- Ability to adjust our divisional alignment to reflect the NHL (3 divisions per conference)

In addition to all that neat stuff, we also believe that the simulator will generate more consistent, sensible results.

So what do you need to do now?

Nothing. We will let you know when you can download the new GM Editor (There will be no cost). It will take us some time to configure the new league during which we will also be doing the ratings.

If you do want to read more about the sim you can visit http://sths.simont.info/index.php .

I liked the old SIM. Now we're going to have to figure out a new one...and teams that had good sim chemistry could be SOL with this new one.

Since ratings change every off-season any supposed sim chemistry is altered anyways.

If this sim is better, as everyone I talk to tells me it is, then why not switch?

Thats fine if you want to upgrade, but an announcement like this should be made at the start of a season for the next one, or before people start making trades. If this alters the way the game is played, I'd have been less likely to trade next years picks in case the new sim causes my team to crash and burn

Sorry next time we'll make sure we're doing things on your timetable.

You should know by now that we are always looking for ways to improve this league to make it a more fun game for our GMs...I can't recall you ever liking a change in this league.

The amount of work we will have to invest to make this happen is significant. So frankly I really don't care about any inconvenience this causes you because the timing doesn't suit you.

Thats fine...I'm allowed to have an opinion on things. The Commishes always do what they think is best for us, I just would like it if they weren't always suprises

Interesting - FHL has not been updated in so long it makes a great deal of sense to move into a new system. As much as we might be familiar with or used to the old sim, there were many drawbacks to it and it didn't seem as if they'd be addressed any time soon. Interested to see how this will work.

looking at it again, the lottery draft, our draft isn't contained within the sim... wouldn't work for us
oh well, likeing the new features, like that the save% plays into when the goalie is pulled... nice to know if it's a 5-5 that the goalies might not be pulled for both teams

As far as I can tell your off-season game plan so far was to try to take advantage of people who might not be able to afford their RFAs...basically trying to get something for nothing. I fail to see how this would change that strategy in the slightest?

And i've made all of 0 trades, so that obviously wasn't working. Now people will be holding onto players to see how the new sim will work before they trade them

Should be interesting, didn't even know they've come out with other sims besides the FHL.
I guess my big question is, what kind of ratings system does it use? I assume there may be different categories than what we have now. Are guys still going to be rated say 65-85, or is there a different level. Re-rates are hard enough to do but if we're changing the categories and everything it will be very hard.

And I believe as coach you can also set specific limits for when you want your guy yanked from a game.

There's nothing REALLY stopping the league from having a lottery - they could literally just pull names out of hats if that is what we wanted. We could set it up to be some big event a'la TSN except with the interested parties around a table at a pub.

That being said, I don't really think the idea of a draft lottery would work too well for us as it might actually hamper trading by adding another level of uncertainty regarding the position of a draft pick during the season.
