Jeremy Maclin or Percy Harvin
Hey guys, I'm in a NFL fantasy dynasty league and just wanted to gather your opinions on something. In the upcoming rookie draft I'm in 8th spot and am looking to grab a WR. Crabtree is already gone and it's looking like I'm going to have a choice between Jeremy Maclin or Percy Harvin. Just curious to CalPucks opinion on who they think will be the better of the two both immediately and for the long run.
The Wr's in my league get .1 points for each yard receiving or rushing (which could favor Harvin) and 6 pts for a TD. This year punt and kick returns will also get points. I think it's 6 pts for a TD and 1 points or each 25 yards.
I think that Maclin is the stronger WR and working with McNabb will definitely help him right away. But Percy Harvin keeps popping up in my mind and looks like he is fitting in with the vikes. He has some off-field troubles but it looks ike Minnesota really wanted him. A wildcat offense with Adrian Peterson could be quite potent. He could really be comparable to Reggie Bush. Both return kicks (to my knowledge). Just wondering who would you guys take if you were in my shoes? Thanks.

Not trying to be a homer, as I was firmly against the pick, but go with Maclin. He's easily the more complete player. My only concern with him would be playing time but I think he'll line up in the slot on a lot of plays which is where he is used to playing.

I'm not going to lie. I'm not really familiar with either player. The thing with most rookies is you don't really know how they are going to perform at the pro level. It sounds like you are looking at a third receiver or a backup with this selection for this season unless either of the two players ends up being a surprise. I would go with Harvin if he is going to be the regular kick and punt returner. You will at least see points every week. In a head to head league, nothing is worse than starting a player who puts up a goose egg. If both receivers are nothing more than a third or fourth receiver? Chances are nether one of them will get you many points week in and week out. The special team points are better than nothing and a safer pick overall.

I disagree I play in an league with a ton of teams and yet there is always a special teams player available in the first couple weeks. You go for boom or bust as that's how you win championships. Just my two cents.
Now I think Maclin is the better player but I also think the Eagles have better depth on WR than the Vikings. After Berrian honestly everything is up for grabs. Eagles have Curtis, Baskett, Jackson, and Brown. I think Maclin has the skill to be #2-3 mixed with Jackson at the beginning of the season. Harvin should get a decent shot at the #2 unless the Vikings choose to go with a possession receiver at the 2 because Berrian is more of a speed guy. I think you will see both of them in a variety of situations because they are both playmakers. Maclin is the better receiver, but he also isn't a slouch on the stuff that Harvin is good at (backfield, special teams, etc...). It's a tough choice but I still go Maclin especially if its a keeper. Also if I recall harvin has dealt with some injuries.

Thanks for your input guys I really appreciate it. Well, the choice was made easier for me. I figured either both would be available or one of them would be gone by the time it came to my pick. I was torn between the two but Percy Harvin got picked right before my slot. So Jeremy Maclin it is. I think it will work out the best this way.

That is very true. I used to pickup Dante Hall every year to fill in for injured WR's. In my league he would average 10 points a week. Like I said I don't know either player. Rookies are such a crap shoot with the exception of RB's, (you can always find a rookie RB that is a monster). You can analyze everything to death and still come up short.

WR is always a feast or famine position. My league doesn't give points for receptions (Yards and TDs only) so your guy either has a matchup that he gets lots of yards and/or points, or he is shut down and you get zilch.
I've also heard the axiom that you don't know how good a receiver is until their sophomore year. Then you know if they have adjusted to the press coverages and complex schemes.

If anyone gets a chance...watch the piece on Outside the Lines about Broncos WR Brandon Marshall and his penchant for beating and terrifying women.... and then the Broncos and the NFL somewhat implicit in allowing things to carry on....to this day.
What an utter ######bag he really is. 7 counts of domestic violence in the space of a couple years if i saw correctly in 3 different states and Puerto Rico...most were never brought to charges though. He has been arrested twice on this stuff and still faces a trial in the last incident.
And to be fair they had Marshall on the show and let him tell his "side" (denied everything of course including saying he NEVER touched her)...there is only one "side" to this kind of stuff....you dont punch/hit/slap/push/ramyourvehicleinto etc etc...your partner. Period.
He says its all about money.....i say BS. He is a guy that needs some serious therapy and the NFL and Broncos need to make sure it happens.

Lots of speculation in Denver that he's going to hold out for a new contract. If he didn't have these issues it would likely arleady be done.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded or released.
And the downward spiral of the Denver Broncos organization continues into the abyss. Hey....I think I see the Raiders up ahead.....
BTW...haven't seen the episode yet.

If those woman were dogs, he would have been suspended long ago. Not that abusing animals is right. Just that the NFL turns a blind eye to woman beaters, but comes down hard on a player like Vick for dog fighting. In my opinion, the players who abuse woman should be given at the very least the same sort of suspension that Michael Vick received.

People are livid and saying they don't think Vick should ever play again, but there guys who have driven drunk and killed people and they are still allowed to play. There are more than a couple felons in the NFL and most people couldn't care less.

Its sad how mixed up societys priorities are. I don't condon what Vick did at all. If you look at the outrage over dog fighting, then see how little people care about the battered woman. It really makes you shake your head.

Where do you live Ditch? I know three people who have SeaHawks season tickets in Alberta. There must be quite a few from BC and Alberta.
