That was Eck? Wow, he sure is a massive homer. The only thing I agreed with him was when he said to Cito while pulling Cecil: "A little late on that one, hey Cito?"
I kinda agreed with that sentiment. But I could barely stand his unprepared broadcasting style. He only knew about the name brand bluejays and called our bullpen nobodies while saying the sox had the best pen in baseball. Come on, they were the best the last two years era wise. Totally lame, it makes me hate our colour guys less. At least our colour guys are sometimes too critical of the home team and know about the other teams' talent to some degree.

Which colour guy comes close to being too hard on the Jays?
I have watched a number of Jays games and heard most if not all of the guys that they use and haven't heard one of them come close to being too hard on a Jays player.

I know that Rance is up to date on other players, Jesse is on point and apprised of league storylines, tabler knows who the good players in the game are, it's just that the PBP guys can be a little homerish, but it wasn't to Eck's level of bias. He's a colour guy not a paint it Red guy. Jamie is biased but at least he's meek sounding and seemingly concedes to the stronger performer. I here him talk about other teams with some level of intelligence and venerability. I am not saying he's my guy, but he's the only guy doing it. Wilner on the other hand, is a total fan but that's why he's on the radio. Perhaps it's because we don't get the fan590 feed all the time that I don't get annoyed with him and I'm too distracted to find and listen to a baseball game online.
Eck helps me to appreciate guys like Joe Morgan. Joe, I cherish your insights.

To be fair to Eckersley, he's just a fill in for the regular guy Jerry Remy, who is on leave with medical issues. I like the broadcasts to have a bit of life or humour to them, I especially enjoy Mark Grace or Steve Stone as colour guys. The Jays broadcasts have zero levity, and I find Campbell does his best to kill any excitement. MLB should have a Vin Scully option for every game, they can do it for video games......

I thought this was the kind of year they would be having right from the start so I'm giving them value for entertainment so far. When I saw the pitching staff and with their penchant for not hitting in the clutch it seemed like a recipe for disaster and boredom. But heck up till now they have been stunningly good. I say so what if they hammered by teams with an actual pitching staff and clutch players galore. As long as they are giving good value in their other games.
They could still go bad really, really quickly but for some spring/summertime entertainment I sure hope they can continue the smoke and mirrors show.

It's hard to say because Tallet and Cecil aren't exactly our #2 and #3. Even factoring in the injuries to Marcum and McGowan, those guys were still not even our rotation to start the season. It's a little different if we had Litsch and Romero in there.
I'm not ready to throw the season away based on a loss to a knuckleballer (that the Jays always struggle with) and a game where their 21-year AAA pitcher gets rocked shortly after staying in the game with an injury (and could easily end up on the DL after the game).
The Jays might have trouble holding off the Sox/Yankees, but let's not forget that the Rays were able to with an equally unheralded rotation just last season.

I'm usually pretty even-keeled over this kind of stuff, but I always think Boston makes the ump their collective bitch.

the strike zone last night was either really interesting, or the cameras in ancient Fenway Park are way off.

Yeah.
"Lind has taken over in left field for the Jays this year" in his second game in left this season.
"Barajas is a fine defensive catcher but a liability on offense" (paraphrased) while he's hitting over .300
"Jason Frasor is, *reading* short and *reads stats* wow, having a great year this year *watching* and he throws hard too!"
"Once again the Sawx see a soft tossing lefty with two pitches" Tallet, who proceeded to mow with four solid pitches.
Stuff like that constantly, maybe we're spoiled by the prep work Howarth and Maher do, but for cripes sake, you're a proffesional baseball expert. FFS at least read the bloody program.

I saw some pretty favourable calls for both teams' starting pitchers, but Cecil just came unglued, so it looks worse from our point of view.

Yeah he really is unprepared. But he's been on the job maybe 4 days?
He's making the adjustment from studio guy to analyst in an emergancy situation.

Maurer has 8HR this year and a 750 slugging pct. He's only had 68+ abs. Wow.
20-1 was the final. The white sox are a mess. Talk about moving on, these guys should be sponsored by U-Haul.
