Default Any Network admins here?

What kind of software are you using to monitor your network?

I'm looking for something 'simple' that allows me to monitor bandwidth on numerous 'remote' networks.

I've been playing around with the products from these guys: http://www.paessler.com/ and they are not bad. Depends on how big your company/client is - at some point you probably want something more robust than what these guys are doing, like Solar Winds.

The stuff from SolarWinds is WAY to much for what I'm doing.

I'm downloading the trial software from Paessler right now, so I'll check that out. I just want something simple that can monitor bandwidth, and match it to IP addresses on an internal LAN. I think Paessler can do that...from the little I read.

Being able to remotely monitor numerous networks is also important.

If you have managed cct's with Telus, you can use their monitoring system online. Thats all we do for the lines with less than 5mb managed.

I have used solarwinds in the past, its very good but it almost provides too much information IMO.

It definitely can. It even has a billing module that you can configure to generate invoices for bandwidth usage, including overages, peak/non-peak, etc. I like to bill my wife for her bandwidth at home

I've used the Paessler stuff long enough now to also report that its quite stable. The services it runs to collect SNMP data in the background are stable, I haven't had any issues with it on a Windows 2003 server so far. It runs well in a VM too.

Yeah, the billing thing is pretty cool. I first saw that on Sonicwall Viewpoint....pretty cool.

I'll play around with it. I already like the fact that I can use it for 30 days.
