Street Sweeping: Any Notice?
My parents left for the long weekend this morning and asked that I move the cars if the street sweeping starts. So this morning I was looking to see if they had any signs out announcing the dates. Nothing, so I figured I was good for at least a couple days.
3 hours later they're in front of my parent's house, and they're probably wondering why no one has moved their cars.
What a waste of time and money, of course no one moved their cars, they didnt know they had to. I didnt, and I looked specifically.
Is this happening to anyone else?

They have done some of my area and I haven't seen any signs. I agree, it's a complete waste. My parents area always gets done first at the beginning of April usually and they always have signs.

Was anyone else expecting to read about a sinister yet clever plan to dispose of hobo corpses via street sweeping?

No problem in Lakeview. We were @ the beginning of April and we had signs. They did change the dates a couple of times, but it was posted.

Anyhoo, yeah, they sometimes screw up with the signs. I like it when they forget about them and it's like November and someone finally picks it up.

They had a sign posted in Erinwoods that read April 29th and the 31st. I don't know what calendar they were looking at, since there is no April 31st.

Its coming but it probably wont be a hobo, it'll probably be a street-sweeper truck driver.
Basically, I was trying to move the cars in front of my parent's house. Theres 3 cars, one me and nowhere to put the goddamn things.
Anyways, ones a pickup truck with a performance motor/carb, so no choke, and it wont idle when its cold so I have to sit in it with my foot on the gas until it warms up. Needless to say I cant move the other 2 cars while doing this. So I decide to move it first in hopes that I can warm it up enough so that it idles and as soon as it idles I can leave it to warm up until its drivable while moving the other 2 cars.
In the meantime the street sweepers are right there, so I tell them, 'hang on a minute, I'm moving them." Sure, no problem, they waited all of 5 seconds. Great. Anyways, I eventually get this thing going, I move the other car and then my Mom's car is dead. Period, nothing. Wont crank, wont fire, just a dead key. Probably a battery, but the only set of cables is in my car which I dont have because its getting some work done and I borrowed a friend's car. Great.
Well the street sweeper driver tells me I've got to move it, as though I was sitting in it for kicks and I decided to see if I could fool him into thinking it was dead in my effort to preserve the crap underneath it indefinitely. I asked him if he had cables, of course not. So he says they're going to tow it. Since when do they tow cars that arent cleared? Dont they usually just drive around? Anyways, he was vehement, they were going to tow it, so I eventually just threw up my hands and said Tow it then, I dont care, it isnt going anywhere on its own right now. If you have to tow it, tow it!
Bah! Just a huge piss off.

Did they end up towing it? I'd assume it was just a courtesy tow around the block anyways.

So there were no signs up saying "no parking"? Then I would have called the police, and told them somebody was trying to steal your car.

They wouldn't tow it to a lot, at most just move it so they can clean the roads. At least the crap gets cleaned from that way. They either courtesy tow up here, or just leave them and the sweepers go around.

They cleaned the streets around my house today. Terrible job, as per usual. Half the rocks are still against the curb. I think I might actually call 311 this year about it.

Had our streets cleaned today, no notice whatsoever with signs until 1230pm, when they mysteriously appeared.

Well, the car is still there. I'm waiting for my friend to return my car. And yes, the street sweeping job was sub-par at best.
I wouldnt even give the honour of being designated 'half-assed.'
Half an ass is too much ass for that job. Maybe 3/16ths of an ass.

I am pretty sure they do an early spring clean and get a bunch of the stuff up, and then come back later in the spring/summer and do the more thorough job?
That is what they did in front of my house last year so I assumed it was what was happening this year again?
They did my street yesterday really fast, I watched the guy blow-by, just passing cars if they were parked, and that was that. I find it hard to believe that was all they are doing for the entire year?

I doubt it Claeren, unless you live in a somewhat busy road or a road in which buses travel. As for residential, it doesn't get done up here more than once, so I doubt it does in Calgary. I could be wrong though.

Wow, then they did a brutal job then. The worst job in 20 years that I have seen?
Usually they come through with all sorts of cleaning equipment in like June?
