Matinee price. Right now it would be $9. These are US dollars as well

Holy crap, I think I just became a star trek fan. I have never really got into Star Trek...closest was occasionally watching TNG, but even that didn't interest me all the time. After watching this movie, I am a sold....sold to the MAX.

What an awesome movie. Considering how hard it is to do a proper 'reboot' with so many characters, this has exceed every expectation I could have had.
Setting the bar low, this was way better than the Star Wars prequels. Setting it high, this was better than The Dark Knight*.
*with all due respect to Heath as the Joker, a performance that really stands on its own and will stand the test of time.

$7?
$12.50 here, then $4 for a bottle of water. Normally you have to go to the airport to get deals like that.

I saw it and liked it. I can't rave about it like some are doing here but I definitely enjoyed myself.

$7? I could threaten someone with a knife and not get in for $7.
You Americans always think your dollars are so special.

I realized Time Travel is possible because Christopher Lloyd was in one of the Star Trek movies.

Does anyone know if this is being shown in any Imax theatre in Calgary. I only know of the one in Chinook.

I'm a big Star Trek fan, and I agree that they kinda ducked the ethical dilemmas - but I'm happy about that!! I wanted the new Star Trek to be an homage to what a wonderful and progressive show Star Trek was.
Expecting Abrams to take on everything he took on (casting, back stories) plus nods to fans and haters (gettin' it with a green chick, red shirt = dead) - all that PLUS a moral and ethical dilemma that only a stringent adherence to regulations combined with an impassioned plea of humanity could overcome - that would be way too much for a first movie. No one would have been happy.
As it was, they took on too much and did admirably. I loved the movie.
The "new" star trek is not going to be everything the original star trek was, it couldn't be. And it doesn't need to be. I'm not upset the old star trek is being ruined, I'm happy I get to be a fan of both. As an example, I was never a big fan of Bones (original). He was always my least favorite character. BUT, the "new" Bones is so bang-on awesome that I love it. They absolutely nailed him, and without the old star trek I wouldn't love this Bones half as much.
I'm rambling, I'll stop. Big fan.

I don't like our dollars. They aren't worth as much as they once were.
Your dollars have one of my favorite animals on them, are easier to save and insert easily into strippers g-strings.....
Seriously, though, is $12.50 a matinee price or do theaters there have uniform pricing?

One of my favorite things in it was the lens flares. Abrams was talking in an interview about how he had this idea that the future was so bright it could scarcely be contained; he also admitted that they got totally carried away with the lens flares and there are parts of the film he watches now where he thinks that they went a bit overboard. But because they did them live with off-camera lights, mirrors and filters rather than digital, they couldn't remove them after the fact, nor could they control exactly how they flared. Anyway, it gives the film a very distinct look; I can't recall any other film that uses them in the same way.

They ditched matinee pricing here a few years ago. It's $12.50 at any time now.

Well, it used to be $12.50 for regular, and like $7 for matinee. Then they went to $10 for all showings, which initially was a pretty good deal, all things considered. Inflation took care of the rest.

Nice... estimates for the weekend were UNDERestimates.
ST sits at a revised $79.2 million for the first 4 days. (Thursday through Sunday)
