Definitely needed the win tonight to tie the series at 2. Thrashers win 7-5 despite being outshot 33-26. Nilsson leads the way with 2 G, 1 A. Hamrlik and Brodziak also step up offensively. It's now a best of 3 series.

PS.......Congrats to the Sabres for moving onto the conference finals and congrats to the Pens on a great season. That series might have been a sweep but it was anything but. 4 one goal games (2 decided in OT).

2 straight years for the Sabres in the Conference finals. Good job there.

Another solid year for the Penguins. I expect they'll return another good team for next season.

actually I think we lost in round 2 last year, we beat the Bruins then lost to the Canes IIRC?

SABRES ADVANCE IN CRAZY COSTLY WIN
Deadline acquisition Mike Grier the monster

The Sabres completed a 4 game sweep of one goal wins over Pittsburgh, but it cost them with injuries to 2 key players. With veteran Daryl Sydor already sidelined the team elected to drop Sergei Federov back to D and promote Radek Bonk to 2nd line centre. However after a few minutes-and an assist- Federov went down to injury forcing the rest of the blueliners to step up, then with one second to go in regulation the Sabres lost first line LW Patrik Elias to injury. However Mike Green scored in OT with assists to Prospal and JS Giguere to propel the Sabres into round 3. Mike Grier had a massive game for Buffalo with 3 goals and a +5 in 28 minutes of icetime, Sabres throw more than 40 shots at Pittsburgh. Congrats to the Pens for a closer series than it seemed.

Sabres hope a few days off can allow Sydor, Elias and Federov to rest up

Well this is not the way we wanted to go out, would have liked to win at least 1 game. Goaltending was the killer for us all series and we tried to pull a rabbit out of our hat by starting Price. He was better then Toskala, but still not good enough to get the win.

Congrats to the Sabres as they are really rolling now, they have great chemistry and will be hard to stop.

A chippy game 4 for the Bolts and "Trash". Cheecho was knocked out in the first by a Staos high stick.

The Bolts seemed to have contol of the game with about 6 minutes to play but Atlanta scored 3 unanswered to pull off a victory. Coach Hitchcock closed the dressing room for 30 minutes after the game and was livid with his team for getting away from what got them to this point.

HITCH: We have been solid all playoffs in keeping the goals against down. For some reason we came out tonight and thought we could run and gun with this bunch of trash. Then they go out head hunting. Cheechoo will be back. Atlanta's skill players better keep their heads up is all I will say.

Congrats to Buffalo for being the 1st team to advance. Tough for the Pens again this year, the last 2 years I'd say they are one of the top 2 teams talent wise from the East and in both cases they don't advance to the finals. You built it to contend every year though Goffie so I expect to see you contending again in 1 year.

Great to see the Sabres move forward but a tough one for the Pens to take as well, they are too good of a team... a tough break
