So, there is a typhoon heading directly towards me,
Typhoon Haitang
Looks to be a class 4 (or 5, who knows).
some Webcams
(It's night at the moment, wait 5 hours for the sun to rise) (I'm in Taoyuan if anyone cares
Anyone been through a typhoon/hurrican before? I've got my water, and more importantly beer. just as long as the power doesn't go out...
I'll try and grab some pics of the damage afterwards for you guys.

What's the difference between a Typhoon and a Hurricane?

A typhoon is a severe tropical storm that occurs within the regions of the western Pacific and Indian oceans, while a hurricane is the same but originates in equatorial regions of the caribbean and Atlantic.

Well it's the next morning now, and the eye still hasn't hit me, I guess the mountains are slowing down it's movement forward.. this means I'm probably stuck inside for another full day...
we'll see how long it takes me to go stir crazy...

I went through no less than five of these things last year - every other week one was lashing the south part of Japan where I was lving at that time. I was even en route to a meeting in Hiroshima in a car during one of them, so I guess I got used blowing through.

Typhoons typically are not as strong as hurricanes, but they bring a lot of rain with them. Depending on the typhoon, you will either have a really windy storm, or a full-on pulverizer. Flooding is not uncommon. There is very little you can do other than follow the instructions locally, though - if they tell you to escape to safer ground, do so. If you live on the slope of a muddy hill, go to the shopping mall.

(oh, and if you have a clump of mountains protecting you, it tends to slow them right down - the area where my wife is from is surrounded by them and rarely gets affected by typhoons)
