Isnt it possible that doctors are so against the idea that they dont even consider it? And that they are willing to "live" with the 1/million chance of something bad happens.
Jim and Jenny might be Kooks, but that doesnt mean they cannot be right.

Jesus Christ on a stick.
Believe it or not, there are many things that are harmful to some section of the population. For instance, I'm horribly allergic to shrimp. Does that mean that there should be a ban of all shrimp products? What's your cutoff of things that you think are "silly" risks, and those that you consider to be Serious Business?

I consider the chance that my healthy baby might become autistic because of these safe vaccines to be a little more serious than silly.
1/million chance, is still a chance. They put warnings on everything else, why not vaccines. Heck they recalled my favorite water bottle over some bs possible. I know the reason the medical community is risking this, its because some will decide not to get any vaccines cause and cause more problems but to attempt to slander these people when they could have a legit claim is complete BS.
I dont know anything on the issue other than what I saw on 60 minutes and casually gleaned from the Interwebs so I by no means an expert but this story has legs and if it was complete BS and "silly" then I dont think it would.

Tower,
Do you have (or intend to have) children? If so, did (will) you have them vaccinated?

You're vastly overestimating the risks of vaccination versus other risks, like crossing the street or drinking coffee full of the insecticide known as caffeine.

No, you're not an expert. I wouldn't even consider you even close to informed.
Did you know that the doctor that did the study linking vaccines to autism admitted that he made up that study? No, you find the damned link.

Dude, you've got nothing.
I really suggest you look at the phlalates problem. It should feed your paranoia quite nicely. Hopefully it'll keep you away from any sort of electronic device for a while.

I choose to cross the street or drink that coffee and trust that no one will try to run me over or poison me with that coffee. If I so choose I could be anal and dudilligently research which streets had the lowest pedestrian death rates, and skower the interwebs on which coffee was the safest.
When I take a vaccine I am relying on the medical system, a relatively closed and extremely expensive system. One that normal people couldnt afford to research effectively, you normally take the doctor you are given and blindly trust him/her.
From the 60 minutes piece of what I can remember. "Jenny" did the reasearch herself on the web after her doctor gave her no answers. Since her and Jim are in the upper income level, I would assume they had good doctors, not the yellowpages type. And when she brought that possibility to the doctor they in effect laughed at her. Then when she took matters into her own hands her baby got better.
Call them kooks all you want and dogpile, but she basically "saved" her kid when the doctors refused to think outside their preconcieved box. Doctors are not perfect, to think they are is "silly".

the amazing thing is, that despite all of these carcinogens and other health dangers, human beings are living longer than ever before.
I have a child, we had him vaccinated, and with all of negative press on vaccinations, both my wife and I were nervous - but the risks were far outweighed by the positives.
Life is full of risk - and by the very decision to have a child, we entered on of the riskiest decisions we will probably ever make as it pertains to my wife (and probably child's) health. And from there, there is a risk of letting him ride in the car with us, there is a risk of letting him live in Calgary (or any urban setting). If we were to stop doing things based on risk, we wouldn't have a life.
As for Jim - he is totally entitled to his opinion, as is Jenny. He raises reasonable questions that any parent with children may have.
I think that at some point, science (and not rampant speculation) will determine what causes autisim - and until occurs all you can do is go by the existing data.

There is no guarantee that they won't still get sick with what you've injected into your child... You will never get one.
There are some great youtube video's out there. However this topic was researched by me 10 years ago from journals stating both sides. I learned that you need to ask questions when a doctor gives you anything. If they can't answer the are grossly negligent and unqualified to give there advice and prescriptions on that subject.
|
I would argue that MDs look at both sides of the story before giving you any prescription, they just don't have this discussion with their patients each and every time. As for vaccinations, multiple studies have proven that they not only decrease morbidity but also save the government large amounts of money. In other words, it would be in the interest of drug companies to not provide vaccinations, as they would get much richer from treating all the complications from diseases caused by not getting vaccinated. Anyone claiming anything otherwise is downright ignorant.

So you only drink decaffeinated coffee? You do realize that caffeine, yes, caffeine, is a hell of an insecticide, right? That's why certain plants make it, so they don't get eaten to the ground by insects.

Ding ding ding.
That's why this is bad -- people believe that their healthy baby might get autism from a vaccination.
Problem is, it's not true. There is no evidence linking autism to vaccines.
But Jenny really really really believes it, so she gets to go on Larry King and say it, and people start to believe it.
