1st annual calgarypuck NFL mock draft! (Finner, Papi34, Tranny*, Trojan97,Oilfan#81 )
OK..hopefully this works now. First time I lost everything and had to start over. No time limits, as we all have lives outside of CP (I think). I will be unavailable for a large chunk of every day except next Sunday so I can't expect others to be present when I can't. Let's just all make an effort to keep this moving so we can finish before the real draft starts. If anyone notices any mistakes with the team assignments (not who you got, but if you got 3 teams or 1) let me know. Apologies if anyone is offended by what I gave you. I did my best! Let the insanity begin. Moon, you are officially on the timeless clock! Don't be a Millen!!

With the first pick in the 2009 CP Mock NFL draft the Detroit Lions are happy to select from the University of Georgia, Matthew Stafford.
We believe that Matthew brings the skill, poise and leadership qualities that will make him the face of the franchise for many years in Detroit.

With the 2nd pick in the 2009 CP Mock NFL draft, the St. Louis Rams select from Baylor University:
Jason Smith, OT
We feel Jason Smith is the best tackle in the draft and we need to fill a MAJOR hole left by Orlando Pace.

50 years after Bobby Layne cursed the Lions franchise, they draft a QB from his high school to usher in a new era of winning football.
With this pick, the curse is lifted!

Interesting! I had no idea they both attended the same high school. Holly Wood couldn't write a script like this.

What if, after you make a pick, you PM the person up next?

With the 4th overall pick, the Seattle Seahakws select Virginia offensive tackle, Eugene Monroe.
Comments:
- With Walter Jones recovering from microfracture surgery at age 35, Monroe is a ready-now left tackle that could start in 2009 if Jones isn't ready or take-over when Jones retires. He did play some guard in college, so could fill in at LG in 2009 beside Jones. I think Monroe is one of the safest, "sure thing" picks in the draft and should be a fixture at tackle for years to come.
- I thought long and hard about Sanchez and Crabtree. I think #4 is a little early for Sanchez, as you would still have to pay him top $ to be Hasselbeck's backup for a season or two, and the Seahawks don't have much cap room. Crabtree is going to be a great receiver, but the signing of TJ Housh gives Seattle enough depth to wait until a later round to take a receiver.

Man, I went to bed right after my last post! Came home for a quick lunch and updated the last two picks. So I've been offline for 15 hours or so.
I kind of like the PM the next guy up idea!

Sorry, was away all day.
With the 5th overall selection.
The Cleveland Brown select from Texas DE BRIAN ORAKPO.
"The Brown needed a pass rusher, and Orakpo a bit undersized possesses good speed and is very quick. Former basketball star would fit in perfectly on the Brown defensive line." Said the EXPERT.

I'm absolutely stunned that we don't have another pick yet. I PM'd Super-Rye last night when I updated the Orakpo pick. Like I said in the op, I'm not looking to impose time limits but if you're involved in this draft and on calgarypuck you need to check the thread to see where you're at. We can do better than this.
