lots of good shops in town, Bow Cycle or the Bike Shop are good. Lots of selection, decent customer service (weekends are crazy, go weekdays if possible).

Sweet, I don't mind travelling to a good trail. Do you still have that bike that was in the buy/sell forum, or did you sell it?

Yeah I don't think size should be an issue. If you remember the thread I obviously got the sizing wrong but I'm sure it would fit you well.

Uhhggg...

I did the first stretch to Mt Romulus campground and I misread the topo map. We brought as much camping gear as I would normally backpacking PLUS a whole bunch of beer. Took us over 2 hours and it snowed.

Only took us 20 minutes to get back though.

All of the trails starting at Stations Flats are good.
- in the early months, sulphur (nicknamed suffer) springs is a good trail. It's kind of an anomaly in that it doesn't seem to have a downhill. You start at station flats, and climb and climb and end at station flats. Takes about an hour, give or take your fitness level.
- If your relatively new, tom snow is good, but muddy early on.
- more advanced, Race of spades is alot of fun, with stunts. Also moose packers is alot of fun, ending on tom snow.

Further down the hwy, powderface is a gooder.

Calgary's location is awesome for bikers. Bragg Creek, Kananaskis, Canmore, Banff. A little further out, and Fernie is a blast. We're pretty fortunate.

Keep an eye on the trail conditions on pinkbike.com if you guys are going to be doing any riding out in the Bragg creek/Station Flats area. The trail builders all post on there, and it's a courtesy thing to stay off em if they're wet or still snowed over. Burms take a LONG time to build, and rutting them out after it rains really pisses people off.

There's also a buy/sell forum on there for used bikes, and it's where I buy all my frames. Lots of guys in town here selling stuff, and it's totally reasonable for prices.

Hadn't ridden a bike in years, but decided on getting one yesterday at Bowcycle. My wife got one at the same time, but both wouldn't fit in the back of the vehicle, so I decided I would ride home. Home is in Lake Chaparral....it was a long ride, but man it was fun, I took the the Bow river pathway all the way to Lake Sikome, and then home from there, what a beautiful path system. Any other standout path loops in the city?

Nose Creek is a nice long one as well.

From another website, looks like Moose Mountain is in good shape. I may have to check it out when I have a race free weekend.

			Fun thread,
I'm looking for a mountain bike too - need something for training that's a bit heavier than my road bike, been looking on and off this past month, keep forgetting.
But great thread, also need to go check out that book from MEC

When I first moved down here I biked alot. Not knowing alot of poeple down here and none that would want to go biking on a Saturday (plus living in a condo) got me to sell my bike.

The MEC Book is great, I also picked up this trails and pathways thing from Coop when I first moved down here. Great publication. Has maps of the pathways, bylaws regarding bikes etc.
