Don't know why this thought crossed my mind... maybe it's the fact that I'm trying to think happy thoughts after tonights game... maybe it's just because I'm odd...
Was thinking of what I look forward to this summer and then I started to think about what my favorite "moments" are. So here's mine:
1. Spending the weekend tenting in the mountains, doing the usual camping stuff like drinking beer around the fire, taking a dip in the lake.. etc. Then when the campfire starts to get sparse, head to the showers and clean up real nice, throw on the shoes, throw the towel over the shoulder and open the bathroom doors to head back to the tent. It is THAT moment where the clean fresh air hits my totally refreshed and rejuvenated body and a feeling of total relaxation goes over me. Then I proceed down the graveled path, walking ever so slowly, just soaking it in.
2. Sitting at the side of a remote gravel road... totally lost... watching a thunderstorm moving across the prairie landscape. The fresh crops swaying and whistling in the breeze, not a drop of rain, some birds chirping but otherwise total silence. Just watching the menace that appears to be far away wreak havoc and breathing in the slightly cool, refreshing air that smells of fresh rain and wet countryside.
So what is your favorite moment... one where you feel totally relaxed and worry free? And no... hookers doesn't count, neither does blow.. in fact, sex is a given, so don't bother either.

I'll have to think on that, but just wanted to say, nicely written!
Painted a good picture.
Sitting out in the water, waiting for a wave. Luckily where I live it is not usually crowded so I can sit out in the water by myself and totally zone out. It's corny to say, but it's my church, my wife says I look 10 years younger when I come back from the beach
Great idea! I'm currently living away from my friends and feeling quite isolated so I often think about the things I miss the most about being back in Calgary.
There are 2 main things that make me feel totally relaxed and worry free:
1. Being on a stage ripping it up on my bass with my musical partners, there can be moments during writing or a jam where everyone is clicking on a subconscious level and you know exactly what to play next without really thinking about it. It is a really gratifying experience for me, even if the jam turns out to be nothing its the musical communication that gets my "spidey senses" tingling. Taking that experience to another level in a live show setting is even better, being able to share your creations with other people is fantastic. This is my happy place. The free beer is an added bonus.
2. Very similar to BlackArcher101...getting a good crew together to trek far away from the city grind and into the wilderness where we can make all our food over the campfire, drink generous amounts of beer, throw the football or frisbee with 1 beer in hand, get sunburnt, STOP and bask in the glory that is mother nature and feel happy and lucky to be alive and repeat previous steps. Into the night the acoustics and percussion will be brought out as we sing songs and reminice around the campfire until the sun comes up. Nothing gets much better than that for me.
Sunny mornings in June. The songbirds are going nuts, there's fresh dew on the grass, all the fruit trees are in full bloom and scenting the air ... it's almost like the world is newly made. Sitting on my back deck, having a coffee and reading the paper on a morning like that ... life doesn't get much better.
Laying in bed first thing in the morning listening to my 19 month old jabber to herself. Nothing better in the world than knowing my baby is happy, healthy, growing and learning everything she can. She is my happy moments.

Driving my car as my MP3 player runs out of batteries, but I find a wicked song I want on Calgary's crappy FM radio selection (and I usually can't stand most of the crap they play) the sunset in my rearview mirror, but not blinding me, with a hockey stick in the way as I drive to a rink I have ice-time at (which happened a week ago). Simply awesome.

After a long, late night of studying at the library, pitch black outside, a nice steady stream of rain walking to the car a good 10 minutes away with the girl of your dreams.
But not too often as I can only take the rain once every little while.
Another good one is... seeing the flames score a goal. And better yet, see the flames win. Oh how I miss those!!!
Skiing and soccer. I know those sound like "favourite events" but those are "relaxing" for me... probably the only 2 things that I'm able to do to "get away" from real life. At least when things are busy.
During a relaxing summer - I really like water, especially canyons. I could sit by a waterfall for hours doing nothing.

Agreed. Except about the paper. Too much bad news in there. I prefer staring aimlessly at the fine details of whatever happens to be in my line of vision.
One of my favorite moments is when I'm driving down a road at a good clip, spring or summer, windows down, and on old favorite comes on the radio. Definitely an enjoyable moment for me because I don't care about music enough to have playlists on my ipod and to crank tunes specific to my mood. So when the radio busts out the right song at the right time, it's a moment where I won't even look at my phone to see whose call I'm missing.
