I dont see it that way at all... They both had pretty great recievers Cutler had the better TE and Cassel had the better RB. I just dont see the huge difference you do... agree to disagree i guess... have to let the season play out

Football, more than any other sport, overrates 1st round picks. (a) they're expensive as hell to sign; (b) they're are few guaranteed blue chippers; and (c) the career of an NFL player is so short, you might be drafting a 2-3 year contributor before injuries cut their career short.
If your favorite team was offered sure thing for 10 years in exchange for two first round picks that have a 50/50 chance of panning out, you'd be crazy not to jump all over that.
As for the Patriots only getting a 2nd: Their situation was entirely different - Cutler was signed for several more years at a good rate, started 4 years in college and nearly (all?) every game since being drafted; Cassel started every game in high school, held a clip board for 7+ years, was franchised at a crazy $14+ M per year, and has a resume that includes an 11-5 season.

I'm sorry but what EXACTLY has Cutler done to prove he's a "sure thing" for 10 years. He's already got Type I Diabeties, which is sure to cut his career short. On top of that he's rumored as a heavy heavy drinker. And third, he's a headcase off the field.
Would I have wanted him on the Vikings....SURE....but not for that cost, I'm much happier with Jared Allen at his bargain trade price now.

Thank god the Cutler saga is over. The dude was getting on my last nerve.
Denver obviously takes a hit at the QB position from Cutler to Orton but good job picking up the 3 draft picks.
I'm still waiting to see where some older free agents wind up. Harrison/Holt are still out there.

Name a better young QB in the league. 4 years or less experience.

It's also rumored that Jared Allen could fall off the wagon at any time.
I'm using "sure thing" in the relative sense. Obviously Cutler could get injured on the first drive in his first game of the season and then he definitely wouldn't be a sure thing.
Again, first round picks in the NFL can be major major burdens. Huge amounts of money are invested in them and the odds of getting an equal return are pretty slim. Look at "cant miss" first rounders like: Gallery, Gholston, Leinart, Young, V. Davis, etc...
IMO, any time you can get a QB that you know can play (and on top of that has a great contract and is young) you take that.

Don't think I can. Just don't think he's worth two 1st rounders and a 3rd rounder is all.
Not knocking Cutler as a player, as he can be fantastic. But he's no sure thing for 10 years, as was mentioned in the post above.
I personally don't see him doing so well in Chicago...but maybe that's just me.

Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, Ben Rothlesberger and DeMarcus Ware say hi.
For every flame out "can't miss" first rounder, you can counter with a productive player who's key to his team.
That's the point of the draft, to build through youth. If it wasn't two 1st rounders and maybe only one, I'd have no issue on this deal. But while first rounders come with a huge financial burden, that is going to change with the new CBA, you can bet on that.
This move wreaks of desperation from the Bears and Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith's career's all hinge on a headcase. Enjoy Kampan, Allen and the Williams's all up in your grill Cutler. Have fun!!

Manning, Rothlisberger, Rivers, Ryan, Romo

Add me to the Bears got ripped off.
Cutler puts up big numbers, because he throws a ton. His TD/INT ration isn't very good, and Marshall is/was one of the best WR in the game.
First rounder are not overated in football. High first rounders may be, but a good drafting team (Like Denver usually is) barely ever misses completly on a first rounder unless its a QB.
Don't underestimate the 3rd rounder they got as well.
3 Picks and Orton......Bears will run Cutler out of Chicago by mid season

Why?
I simply do not believe that....the guy IF the rumors are true is making horrible decisions about his LIFE...nevermind his football career.
And right now...based strictly on performance...I too would take Romo ahead of Cutler as far whom to win with in the here and now. not on talent or potential..but merely on who has done what.

Ryan's a possibility. He was well managed this year. Had one of the best running games in the league to support him too.
He's not there yet, but he could be very soon.
