There is a big difference between your typical abused teenage prostitute that stands on the street corner so she can feed her baby, but only after she has gotten her meth fix, and the girls in this article who are apparently willing participants who are doing it for spending money so they can go to Boston Pizza.

That's actually one of the reasons why I question the accuracy of much of these claims. Most teenage prostitutes end up in that hole because of past abuses. Yet the author who is, ahem .... whoring ... her book is arguing that widespread teenage prostitution exists as a party mechanism, and is made up entirely of girls looking for fun and/or money? Un-huh.

Pretty good set up by the author. Take debunked urban legends, add teenage bravado, the odd case that is either true or half true, and mix in newspapers that will gladly print sensationalist stories (the Sun, lol), and play off on parental paranoia about what their kids are doing, and voila, one moral panic. Ms. Azam should focus her attention on the far more legitimate, and far more damaging aspects of child prostitution.

Weird how she will publish the name of the chinese pimp guy and not the name of the high school. Wouldn't he get prosecuted or was it just a name she created.

My bet is that the author is sensitive to the circus that the particular school would have to deal with if the story was outted. Think of the traffic issues with hundreds of rusted out buicks constantly driving by during school hours, the press all over the school, and not to mention the rumor mill and the reaction of the teenage boys attending the school when they learned that those moble freckles down below originated from guys as old as their own father.

That is a rather good point. So really, either the name is made up - cause we would already have heard about this in the legitimate news - or the author (and the Sun) are setting themselves up for massive legal trouble. Yeah, pretty sure this book should be filed under fantasy fiction.
