Default Maid Service?

Does anyone here on CP use a maid service? If so, which one, how much does it cost, and would you recommend it?

My mom pays 20 bucks an hour for her cleaning lady once or twice a month. You gotta keep everything tidy or you pay out the nose for it, but she loves never having to clean bathroom or her hardwood.

You only clean your bathroom once or twice a month?? How nasty does your toilet get?

oh yes!! its a beautiful thing! my roomie is friends with her, thats we discovered her.
but yes, cleaning is for chumps (IMO). i don't do toilets and showers etc...anymore. PASS. $60 every 2 weeks is wellllllll worth it.

i think the initial visit when we first hired her was a little more, i think we paid her $80 for the first 2 visits but then after that, they dropped the price. i think they do that b/c when they first come in they're pretty much evaluating what they're up against, but as i said the price drops after that.
even so, i still would've paid $80. i still think thats a good deal to not have to clean toilets and showers or mop and sweep.

My wife cleans my toilets. To be honest with some of the explosions and split streams they see you could probably justify cleaning them once a day. If it was up to me, I would only ever pull out the ol Toilet Duck once a month at the most.

My mom on the other hand lives alone and seems to be fine with how often it gets cleaned.

Can't understand why someone would pay someone else to clean thier own home.

Are people that lazy that they can't do it themselves?

I'm a male and have no problems keeeping my house clean.

As with anything. Pay somebody to do something that you don't want to do. Then go do something else. To me it is a great return on my investment.

Such as eating potato chips while laying on the couch watching said maid clean the house.

i know this might shock you but some people don't have time for that. personally i work way more than 40 hrs in a week, the last thing i want to do is spend my time off after work or on the weekends cleaning.
obviously we keep our place tidy etc...the maid just does all the time consuming stuff that i/we hate doing.
so, personally, i take offence to the lazy comment. just sayin...

If you have money buring in your wallet, yeah, i could understand that.

Seriously, if you clean your tub and shower on a regular basis it's not a tough job. Same with the toilet and any other cleaning job. It's routine that doesn't take long if you do it on a regular basis.

Just curious roughly how many sq. feet your place is? $60 is quite cheap.

our place is about 1100 sq feet. however, my friend gets her house cleaned by the same ppl, and their house is about 1300 sq feet but they pay $80 every 2 weeks. but they also have 3 dogs living in that house.

Yeah that makes sense. We pay $110 every 2 weeks, and our place is 2200 sq ft w/ 2 cats.

Well, if it only takes her an hour, thats $60/h wages....and even if it takes her 2h, thats $30/h wage.

If she gets 4-5 cleaning jobs per day, thats $120+ dollars per day, working only 4 hours.

If she does 8 cleaning jobs, all at an hour each, thats $480/day.

Pretty good money, eh. $240/day, is alright too.

Shouldn't take an hour to clean a tub, shower and toliet. Someone is getting taken to the cleaners for paying that.

At my Mom's, the lady cleans all tubs, toilets, sinks, counters, appliances and sweep/mop/vacuum all floors plus any tidying that needs to be done. It takes between 2 and 3 hours at my moms place on a weekly basis @ $20/hour = $40-$60 a week.

If you're into chicks in bikinis, I hear there are companies that'll have ladies in various stages of undress clean your house. No word on happy endings.
