Ya, that's pretty cold.

He just plowed into a car full of people, and his first thought was about himself and about how he could "get way" with it.... not about the people he just killed.

Good. I agree that causing death by drinking and driving should be manslaughter.
I don't think it can be murder one because there was no intent or motive to kill.

Shouldn't penalties be more severe for killing more people? I never understood that.

I highly recommend it. Provides a bit more insight and perspective when you argue about the shortcomings of our justice system. Be prepared to be bored out of your skull, though. Nothing like any television show or movie you've ever seen.

Sittings are usually 10 am to noon and 2pm to 4pm. Get there a bit early to clear airport-style security at the new Calgary Court Centre. Once you clear security, there is a series of large plasma displays listing the names of people and the matters in different court rooms. Find R. v. Tschetter and you are good to go.

The escalators only go up to the 5th floor. If you're afraid of heights the Great Glass Elevators won't be much fun for you granted they have a single frosted elevator on each side now.

Kevin Martin aside, some of the media that cover these kinds of cases are not unattractive.

Too bad this guy can't be tortured in some medieval manner. Every time I read about this I get completely enraged. Its really sad that five innocent people were killed by some idiot, its just so unnecessary. Those poor kids had so much life to live. No amount of punishment is enough for a monster like Daniel Tschetter.

Where would you find a medieval manor in Canada, let alone finding one in Calgary?

He sure seemed smug as he walked out of the courtroom.

Does Balfour Derr make it his mission to defend all the scumbags out there?

No wonder I saw so many cameras and crews around the CCC today. A ridiculous spectacle. One of the families was trying to cross the street. Surrounded by 5 camera guys.

I have no doubt that if somebody did pick this guy off and I was selected for jury duty that I would let him off. Justifiable homicide IMO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone makes mistakes.

In our society, you have to give the guy a chance to defend himself and see what happens.

I also think that any normal person would be scarred for life from this, and would have trouble with mental stability and all that. It's not the first time someone has done something wrong, and there's been far worse.

Justifiable homicide? I'm sure this is ignorant internet talk. I am amazed by what people say sometimes, this is just ludicrous. You probably don't even know half the details, and you say you are going to murder him yourself. Good luck. If you said that to him when he walked out of court, you yourself would be (and should be) going to jail for a long time.

P.S. We will never know what the kids could grow up to, and we'll never know what the adults could have done the rest of their lives. Perhaps the parents weren't good people themselves? There's more than one type of wrong...
