Which flowers are non-romantic? Which flowers are romantic?

You should suggest your company add a "thanks" button.

Seemed to work pretty well at this other place I frequent.

So I thought it would be funny to find a picture of a "penis bouquet" and post that as an example of a romantic flower. here is a hint: don't google penis bouquet at work.

*Shakes head* I do not like crave cupcakes. I don't get what's so great about them. I could make a cupcake at home and pile it high with icing and then charge less for it. Those things are just pure sugar.

Once she understands how much you value her, it could give her the confidence to start taking credit for her work.
How do we draw the line between confidence, appreciation, brown-nosing and politics. Doesn't a manager taking an employee out for lunch look bad?

I'm the quiet type that doesn't get recognized. But I'm also not the perfect model-employee either.

I think it's pretty simple, and it's a system that I've used since I got tired of being looked over. It's brown-nosing if it's incessant. And if it's untrue in any way. And if you're obviously looking for your boss's approval.

It's confidence if you do a good job and make sure your boss is aware of it. If you aren't terrified of talking with someone a rung or three above you, but you don't find yourself in their office more than you need to. If you can walk that fine line between taking credit for your success, while giving credit for the team.

As for politics, it happens. And if you're not willing to play the game, don't expect to get the promotions that others are getting. There's nothing wrong with the game, as long as you play it honourably.

Yikes! Really? That's kind of an odd perception. I thought it was a pretty standard form of appreciation. Of course, I have no use for the petty losers that look for every slight in every action. (Not to say you're one of them).

As long as you're fine with that. Nothing annoys me more than the folks that bury themselves completely in their work, and then complain that nobody notices them. Your boss is a busy dude. Don't be surprised if he takes you for granted more than you'd like.

It is? A boss took me out for lunch once to discuss work-related stuff away form everyone else. It wasn't even to compliment me and I became hated among my peers cause I was now "one of them".

I'd say you work for a pretty crappy place then, if that's the culture there. Management should not be 'the enemy'.

i hear ya for sure. one thing that my DM always sez to me and the other mgrs in my district is....recognize the low producer and do everything you can to make them great, and if after that (and all actions documented) they are still not doing the job they were hired for, then thats when its time to put them on a PIP (performance improvement plan) which by law is 3 months. they either do what they were hired to do and meet the min standards or beat it nerd.
you can only be as good as your weakest link. so, while you need to make sure your top employee gets the promotions etc..they deserve you also need to take care of yourself.
its so unfortunate these days that its almost bloody impossible to find ppl who are willing to work hard.
i want to punch lazy ppl in the face.
just sayin. LOL.
i hope it works out with your employee. she sounds like someone i would LOVE to have work for me.

I think they were just jealous that your boss was hogging you all to himself and they wanted to get in on the sexual harassment as well.
