Insurance on Air Miles Flights

I recently purchased an flight on air miles but didn't purchase their trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Does anyone know if I purchase that insurance from another insurance provider will it refund my air miles (or pay the necessary administrating handling fees to do so) or give me the monetary equivalent to them if I need to cancel?

well i dont know if i can help, but i didnt purchase their (rip off) insurance and it cost me 3000 airmiles when my business trip was cancelled.

i used the airmiles to bring my wife with me to Montreal for the trip.

I think you can purchase trip cancellation from anyone, but don't quote me on that. However, I think that is if you actually buy your ticket, not if you use airmiles. Again, don't quote me on that, and you know, every air miles program could differ too.

I do believe the insurance has to be purchased in a certain time frame though.
