I know not every topic has to be approached with seriousness, and I've been on CP long enough to know that numerous "serious" threads have quickly degenerated to dick and fart jokes, often to the OP's dismay, but I do find that the mob mentality often comes into play and people feel the need to stay in line like sheep to the slaughter for fear that their wild and crazy opinions will cause them shame on CP.

I did ask for it in your own words, but it's not like you have to do what I say, lol. I guess when I read that I can see why you think I am a troll. There really is no way to defend myself, other than to say this:

- On teachers. I'm not alone in my opinions. The various governments that represent Calgarians have to fight teachers every few years because teachers want more than what us taxpayers feel is fair. My position - that is inflammatory and controversial for some strange reason at CP - is actually the same position our elected officials take everytime they have to renegotiate the teachers' contracts. Anyway, I guess you guys can call me a troll all you want. It is a bit lame though because I think it takes away from the credibility of my posts which is a bit frustrating considering I try to think things through before I post, but whatever. It's all good.

It is still a somewhat reasonable claim.

Like I said earlier in 20-50 years I honestly think that dogs will be banned or limited/restricted, to at least a certain extent, in most huge, highly populated/densely populated areas. And rightfully so I might add. I don't think having a dog in Tokyo is really feasible. They have a hard enough time finding place for people let alone dogs. Calgary could one day be like this.

Wild and crazy ideas? This goes FAR, way FAR, so FAR, it's not even funny, out there. Come on how can you defend this topic?

Regardless of him being serious or not how do you think people would react if he was out on 17th ave handing out pamphlets to people on this subject...I'm guess the same way minus the images. 100 people would make fun and poke him for every 1 person who wants to take this radical idea seriously.

By that logic there would be very few dogs in densely populated urban areas in North America--like New York City. In fact, NY is full of dogs.

Population density doesn't have much to do with it. People will have dogs as long as they want to have dogs. Dogs need exercise, not space.

I think the herd (flock?) does a pretty good job of responding to a thread with the appropriate level of seriousness.

It's kind of like real life. If I was hanging out with my friends at a get together and I said to the room "You know what, dogs are stupid, smell bad, I don't like them, and we should ban them!", do you think the response would be much different than here? The form of the response would be different but the content would be much the same. Rolling of eyes, snickers, maybe derogatory comments, a few take it seriously just for the sake of discussing it... etc..

Fear of shame is usually a good thing in social interactions, it's telling me I'm being dumb and should probably think things through a bit more before I open my mouth!
