				 Alberta to scout German workers

Ah, the speedy hand of government, responding to one crisis (labour shortage) well over a year after it is over, and only to make the new crisis (unemployment) worse. Not nearly as funny as the TV advert I saw from the Government of BC a couple of weeks ago, trying to draw workers from Alberta to BC, when BC's unemployment rate had risen by nearly a full percent in the previous month alone.http://www2.canada.com/calgaryherald...4-b48b71951cfb |

If it's health care workers they're scouting, bring it on. My wife is an RN and she just had to work a 19-hour shift due to chronic short staffing colliding head-on with a spike in ER activity. They're letting her have 8 hours off between shifts, then back at it today. So scouting foreign workers might be bad in some sectors, but there are still sectors that desperately need workers, and health care is definitely one such.
Of course, government intelligence being what it is, it doesn't sound like health care is one of the job sectors they're targeting, so that makes it doubly stupid. Bring in more construction workers to do nothing, but who needs more doctors and nurses. Sheesh.

I highly doubt they are tracking professionals here, like nurses, doctors, lawyers, etc. It appears they are looking for non-professionals and forcing them into a very expensive market. Good luck with that, I doubt many Germans are leaping at the opportunity to work for Volker Stevin, Calgary Transit or Earls.
Canada is probably the most difficult jurisdiction in the world for recognizing foreign credentials, without a ton of expensive hoops to jump through, deterring most qualified foreign help right off the bat.

Again, nothing like trying to help 3 years after the fact, and exacerbating a current issue.

That's good, because no one that speaks German could be an evil man.

Hell yeah, but they've never been interested in trying.
