Default Stegall set to hang 'em up

Milt Stegall's era has come to an end in Winnipeg.

The Globe and Mail's Dave Naylor confirmed reports on Friday that Stegall has informed the Blue Bombers he won't be back with the club in 2009. Instead, he will retire and end a brilliant 14-year career that was spent entirely in the Manitoba capital.

Winnipeg head coach Mike Kelly did not immediately return a telephone message from The Canadian Press.

Stegall is expected to attend a banquet in Winnipeg later this month, at which time the slotback would formally announce his retirement.
I never did like him, but he is one of the best. And he is always good against the Riders, so its good that he won't be killing us anymore.

He finishes with 15,165 receiving yards, with an average of 17.7 yds/catch in 187 regular season games and 8 playoff games

All-Time CFL Records
  • Most TDs in a career - 147
  • Most TD receptions in a career - 144
  • Most TDs in one season - 23 (2002)
  • Most TD receptions in one season - 23 (2002)
  • Most yards per catch in a season - 26.5 (1997)
  • Most yards receiving in a CFL career -15,071
  • Most yards in one season by a Bombers receiver - 1896 (2002)
  • Most 1000+ yard receiving seasons by a Bombers receiver - 10
  • CFL Most Outstanding Player - 2002
  • Named as receiver in top passing tandem in CFL history together with Khari Jones
  • Voted one of the CFL's Top 50 players (#15) of the league's modern era by Canadian sports network The Sports Network/TSN.

Too bad they couldn't get a Cup for him.

I love #85.

And the east gets a little bit worse...

Unless Hamilton finally starts to not suck (come on Chi Chi), I could totally see another crossover. Although EDM is in trouble, and BC has lost a few good starters (on a team that is already in decline). At least BC locked up Clairmont yesterday though.

The stage should be set for two in a row, The Stamps are undeniably the best team in the CFL (especially considering how they manhandled MTL).

You sure about that? Because Clermont has been a Rider since December...Click Here

They extended Paris Jackson yesterday...

Usually I would argue about the stamps being the best in the CFL, but its hard to right now, what coming off the Grey Cup and all. But the stage set for two in a row, lol, lets at least wait til the season starts at least before calling anything. Anything can happen when the season starts (see Riders and Broken legs)

Yeah, I should have just wrote good Canadian receiver instead - the local sports guys around here are so pathetic I barely listen to them. Last night Global didn't even show pro bowl highlights. Weak.

Either way, for me.

Edit: By stage being set I mean on paper they are the best team in the league. I do understand that anything can and will happen (especially on the grid iron).

Fair enough if you're Bomber fans, but in most interviews I've seen from him in the past couple years he's come across as a first-class D-bag. Never quite understood the love for him, aside from the obvious hometown superstar love affair I mean.
