I saw that show too...and remember the music stands...as I recall they played Lucky and Electioneering...a buddy of mine snagged the set list from stage afterwards...also saw them at maxbell arena in april '98 and several times out in vancouver

That was a fantastic TVOTR performance. I like your description of it, troutman---"a wonderful racket"---and I found it VERY reminiscent of The National Anthem with the horn section squealing and squonking away.

My only complaint would be that the mix was off. The horns overwhelmed and the vocals weren't prominent enough during that song. I think they need Sitek at the controls of the mixing board after how it turned out.

(searching for a HDTV rip I can download)

Best.Song.Evar!

If you can find the version they did on Conan be sure to watch it. ######ing amazing! Too bad NBC keeps deleting it (along with your youtube account if you are the unfortunate uploader )

Here's the Letterman version (watch it in HD here after clicking the "watch in HD" link below the video window.)

Sorry for the hijack. I'm done now.

Not when standing next to Kate Beckinsale!

Radiohead are now in the decline of their career. Performance was ok. I still like many of their songs such as There There, Pyramid Song, etc. but 15 Steps is not that great of a song and I would have rather heard Video Tape or House of Cards. They may not have translated that great at the Grammys but not sure 15 Steps did either. Part of it may have been how bad did Thom Yorke really want to be there.

Decline of their career? How so? In Rainbows was arguably one of their best albums to date. They were amazing on the last tour, I've seen them 4 times over the years and they keep getting better and better live. I haven't seen any decline at all yet.

My top 3 Radiohead albums are all from the 90's.
1. Ok Computer - 1997
2. The Bends - 1995
3. Pablo Honey - 1993

I think many Radiohead fans would argue other albums such as Kid A or In Rainbows belong in that top 3. I really don't think theres been a succession of weak albums enough to say they are on a decline. In fact I would say Radiohead don't have any weak albums, Pablo Honey is probably my least favourite of the lot.

The thing is, I think if you asked Radiohead fans their favourite Radiohead album, you could get 7 different answers. To me that is a sign of a great band.

This comes down to personal preference IMO. If you listen to The Bends or Pablo Honey vs. Kid A, Amnesiac etc..... well there's a pretty big progression in their sounds. Those first two records were more alternative, guitar-driven.... their later material has steered away from that (I'll admit that I haven't listed to In Rainbows yet). Completely different sounds IMO.

Personally, I liked their earlier material a lot more than the stuff they've put out since Kid A but that's just me... I can see why others, including yourself, might feel differently.

I love Radiohead. I actually enoy every single album, though I do have my favorites...The only thing I didn't enjoy as much as I thought I might were the Thom Yorke singles. He had about 2-3 good ones, and the rest were meh.

Favorite albums would be:

1. Ok Computer
2. Kid A
3. In Rainbows

The bends was what got me hooked on radiohead, I think it is the most mainstream sounding out of all of them. I still like it a lot, but I've found that my taste has changed since I initially got into the band.

Radiohead is pretty awesome actually. Seeing them live is 10 times better than listening to one of their albums. I mean I like listening to the Bends and OK Computer and everything, but they are great live. Coldplay tries to emulate radiohead, but completely fail IMO.

I never get the Coldplay / Radiohead comparisons. Musically they're so totally different, and I think one of the reasons that Radiohead has such a devoted base of fans is that they're going musically in directions that few other musical acts are willing to follow. It's unquestionably an effort to be musical visionaries. Whether they're successful or not is a matter of opinion, and that's why they come of as pretentious to some critics.

Coldplay's sound, on the other hand, is somewhat derivative, but I see them being more derivative of Travis and other songwriting-driven brit pop outfits. Coldplay's vision is to write great pop songs, (again, a matter of opinion as to whether they're successful or not). And I don't mean it as a slight that their sound is derivative. They're like the Brit Pop equivalent of a country band: you don't go into country music to break new musical territory, but you can still aspire to write the perfect country song. That pursuit of writing a great song without really testing the bounds of the genre is a perfectly acceptable goal.

That said, Coldplay would be pretty far down the list of bands I listen to, even amongst sort of airy and uplifting british pop music: the aforementioned Travis or The Engineers would certainly be above them on the list.

Not even close. Trying to emulate Radiohead? WTF is with people and this opinion? It's like one person in the media compared the two and now everyone just claims that as fact.

Honestly, I want one of you guys to break down any of their songs (both bands) musically, and please explain to me how coldplay is trying to "emulate" radiohead, or how they even sound close to one another?

I mean Radiohead doesn't even sound the same from album to album, so which album is Coldplay emulating? I just don't understand where you people are coming from, other than you're just hearing that the popular opinion is that Coldplay is a radiohead tryhard and so you state that opinion as your own.

I'll explain it. They are emulating the massive suck that is Radiohead. In fact they're doing such a good job emulating Radiohead that I'm not quite sure anymore who sucks worse.

Yellow had a lot in common with Bends-era Radiohead, and bands like Travis.
