Pay me $75 bucks and I'll tell you to go to your basement, max out on how many pushups you can do--write it down, then day 2 max out on how many pullups you can do (a piece of electrical conduit through the rafters will do)--write it down, then on day 3 do some lame stretch stuff with some surgical tubing from Rona--and write it down. Week 2 try to do a bit more than Week 1. Repeat this until week 6 and then compare your progress to week 1.
Some dude found a way to charge $150 bucks to tell people how to do pushups. YOU DON'T NEED THIS, SAVE YOUR $150 BUCKS. WORK HARD AND REPEAT. I'm not some exercise guru or even in great shape but I see right through this bullshart.
The key to progress is to exercise consistently and increase the work incrementally each week or 2, it's not rocket science.

So with P90X, do they mix in runs or some other cardio?

Yes, they have a cardio one, a kenpo one, and plyometrics all work on your cardio.

Right, but having 12? seperate work outs made for you, along with a nutrition program specifically for those work outs is worth about $1000 + in personal trainer bills.
I've done weight lifting at the gym for years, I enjoy the atmosphere and I do enjoy working out the biggest problem for me is the time. I am in class and doing homework all day so I do not have a lot of time to hit the campus gym. By night time, after I go home and eat and come back, the gym is so packed you are shareing a bench with at least two other people.
This is why I want to try P90X, the ability to do it in my own home at my own time seems very appealing. I have a question, when you order it can you order their bar and it comes packaged with the DVD's?
I wanted to add also is how expensive is this diet plan? I have a pretty good routine that I follow now that is pretty inexpensive. I eat a lot of chicken breasts, porridge and fat free yogurt.. along with whole wheat pastas in a diced tomatoe sauce (costs like under $4 per meal). I am a full time student so money for food is limited, will I find that it is very hard to stick to this P90X diet with limited funds? Can you bend some of the meals to maybe be half as much but still staying away from the bad guys?

I think the trick to any fitness regimen ultimately boils down to self-discipline and personal preferences.
I would wager the VAST majority of home fitness equipment sits unused within about a month of being bought, largely because it was advertised as "taking the work out of work-outs." So the primary target for such equipment is lazy people who don't want to work at getting fit, they really just want something that will magically make them look good.
P90X is perhaps the first fitness product I've seen advertised on TV that is likely to have a high success rate in making people fit. Not because it's revolutionary in any way, but because it is marketed to people who aren't lazy. In every ad they have people proclaiming how hard the program is. This should deter your "magical solution types" and inflate P90X's success rates.
Your lifestyle and personal preferences are important too. For some people I think the home workout is a great option. For others, not so much. I've been a regular gym-goer for 14 years, and I know P90X won't work for me. Not because I'm lazy or lack discipline, but because I know I'm not doing hard exercises in my house. That's why I go to the gym: because I'm there for one purpose and there are no distractions.
All this to say, if you're a person with self-discipline who benefits from having instructions to follow, this is probably a great buy. But if you're not a person who is willing to work hard at fitness, and someone with self-discipline, P90X will do you about as much good as the Hawaii Chair.

I disagree.
You have 12 separate workouts, along with a proper nutrition plan put together by somebody ON DVD. And it works.
Like someone else has mentioned, how much money would you pay a trainer to create a program like that for you?
Its taken me almost a whole year to modify MY workout programs through trial and error, until I figured out what actually works.

You can call them up, order the P90x program and ask for the chin up bar but say the price is a bit high can you give me a discount and they will likely do so. For me I got my P90x DVD set from Sears and I've also heard London Drugs might have them for even cheaper. Then either just buy the chin up bar from beachbody or go on ebay.

Eat Right, Sleep Enough, Train Hard, Repeat.
That's not rocket science, you don't need a trainer to tell you that. You don't need a DVD with a buzzword title, you don't need some fancy equipment or supplements.
1 out of 100 people who start this program will actually continue to exercise and it may be a good starting point for them. But generally the type of people who are attracted to an infomercial with guys lubed up and offering some new fangled program are most likely the type that are swayed by gimmick's and won't have the self discipline to follow through with it. Actually I will put the people who get personal trainers in the same camp, they think that by paying money it will force them to be disciplined.

I think it also depends on what you're looking for. I used to lift a ton of heavy weights, and was pretty strong. When I lifted weights, I found that it hindered me in hockey, biking etc. I had no endurance.
with p90x, I can't lift nearly as much, but I'm faster on my skates and my bike and my endurance is 100x better. It's just different training. Essentially I'm alot more fit with p90x. Also, when weight training, I always found it tough to get rid of that last bit of fat, but now I'm ripped. With p90x you're going hard for 1-1.5 hrs everyday, no resting. Your heart rate can get up there.
You could make a similar program up for free, except for some of the stuff like plyo, and the kenpo, and the yogo both of which I quite like, especially the plyo. I enjoy the variety, I don't get bored like I did in the gym, but I do find now that I am craving some weights again for some exercises like bench press.

Sheryl Crow was plugging P90X at the Grammys last night. I have a few friends that have been on and off the P90X system and it seems to be a good short term program but after they are done they seem kinda lost. For a similar tv/work out I would recommend www.rippedworkout.ca For me the best excercise option is doing things outdoors as I like to get away from the TV and noise so I prefer biking, running, cross country skiing etc. along with swimming and hitting the Y a few times per week for the fitlinxx program they have along with some free weights. P90X has very good marketing and helps people learn discipline so it has it's place.

Well, just because 1/100 people actually continue to exercise, doesn't mean the program itself is 'bad.'
Its a good starting point for a lot of people....especially those without access to equipment.

yup... access to equipment, knowledge of basic exercises and routines, time and know how to research... there's plenty of reasons why this, or other such ones, is a good program for people lacking certain resources or skills. Add on to that the intimidation and fear they might feel because of condescending attitudes of people who 'know it all' and they might be too timid to ask.
Even if 1/100 sticks to the routine i bet you another 25-50 of those 100 get some motivation enough to make some healthy changes. Hell, even if they are just doing one of the work outs once a week - so what? its probably better than what they were doing.

I did it once last summer with good results. I'm doing it again now with a better nutrition plan. I'm starting week 6 today.
I enjoy it because I don't have to get a gym membership or find the time to go to one. I can do it in my basement where it's just me, which I prefer and it's just a lot easier to follow along and do what they're doing rather than trying to motivate yourself to do a bunch of pushups. I'm pretty disciplined, but having a DVD to work out with makes it a lot easier.

It certainly is intimidating going to a gym, and not really knowing what to do. Even if you read all about the 'lift' back home on the internet, it takes a lot of time to perfect it. And asking one of the trainers there to help you costs you money.
So, either you buy the equipment and learn the lifts at home by yourself, or you follow a program like this. Might be a different method, but it has good results.

My store sells p90x (cheapest around $98)!! This program is nuts - I have done some of the workouts myself and they are pretty good. My own workouts are quite intense as it is, but for the average person that may not have the knowledge base/education I do, I think it's a great option. We sell at least 4 or 5 a day and people love it!
We also sell the pull up bars, push up bars, etc.
PM me if you want more info. Not necessarily looking to sell it - but meant more if you wanted more information on it/educated opinions. If you do want to buy, can help you out there too!

You guys with your incessant nattering about lame workout stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fine remove $150 bucks from your wallet and mail it to the infomercial, and buy a sham-wow rag, oxy-clean, ron popeil rotisserie oven and Dr. Ho muscle penetrator while you're at it. Jesus, I really don't care, but seeing you justify it is hilarious!!!

How dare you bring my Rotisserie oven into this?! It has done nothing but roast chickens.....sweet, moist delicious chickens.
Seriously though, Im on week 8 of P90x and its working like a hot damn. I went to the gym and did my thing, who knows if i was doing what was right for me or if i was doing it correctly. But I do know that this is actually working for me, it cost less than one session with a trainer so I figured why not. It is not for someone whos going to half ass it its hard, requires dedication and it does work.

Hey, each to his own.
I gotta spend $1000 bucks on a power rack and weights anyways.

So I "found" (ahem) the videos but before I acquire them, exactly how much equipment is required, and do you do all the exercises every day, or is there a set alternating schedule for them?
