My favorite (and I own the dvd now yay) was/is The Cat Came Back" by Cordell Barker. Also the Log Drivers Waltz by John Weldon.

Poor Mr Johnson.

Wow, this is extremely excellent!
I never watch TV, and have mostly given up watching DVD's recently too. I will enjoy these.

Hot Stuff is my fav.

This tongue-in-cheek animated short serves as a cautionary tale against the hazards of fire. Early humans were given the gift of fire, but warned against the dangers, warnings that eventually fell by the wayside. In modern society, overloaded electrical sockets, smouldering cigarettes and other dangers lay around every corner, posing possible threats to life and property.

Watching a bunch of these old docs and it is just strange to see everyone smoking while they are being interviewed.

Aaand we managed to crush their streaming capability apparently.

EDIT: Or maybe just don't choose high quality.

Ah! The Sweater! I had Roch Carrier sign my copy of the book when he was in Calgary several years ago!

I saw this video once in 6th grade, and for some reason always remembered it:

I remember back in the days of Superchannel (the original version of it, not the new one that Shaw has brought back), they used to play NFB films in between features if there was a long enough gap and they'd already run all their movie trailers. Saw some good stuff - one I always remember was an animated short about a bunch of bugs who turn a juke box into a disco. And another one about a guy trying to write a symphony and suddenly his whole world becomes animated.

Good stuff.

This has been online for some time now.

My favorite:

EDIT: Beaten to the punch. Although not surprised, that one is clearly the best.

I saw The Cat Came Back on HBO Canada a while ago. I don't know if they play more than that though.

Awesome. We're darn lucky to still have these - thousands of films at NFB were starting to suffer from "vinegar syndrome" - where the cellulose films start to degrade. There hadn't been sufficient funding to actually preserve the films and there was a big fear they'd be lost. Glad to see some cash was ponied up for this project.
