Default QC Forwards

I just wanted to throw this out there for you Calgary folks to know about...

Last night, when the Flames went on the PP in the 2nd period, coach McGill put 5 defensemen on the ice. Technically its 4 as Gord Baldwin has been playing FWD for several games. (We were told by a staff person that he will probably stay at FWD for a while)

It seems even the coach is fed up with how the forwards have been playing. The top line still produces well as Lundmark is a machine up there, but confidence seems low for the group as a whole.

For what its worth, the experiment only lasted 15 seconds as the Flames drew another penalty and went on a 5-on-3 for 1:43. We generated 0 scoring chances with the forwards back out there though. Also, we gave up a shorty in the 1st period.

(though amazingly we scored the winner on a PP goal by Lundmark. after skating in circles for 45 seconds in OT, Lundmark finally just took a slapshot from close to the blue line. similar to the Eriksson OT winner last week, it went right in. amazing things happen when you actually shoot the puck)

when chucko first was out it was said to be a day to day thing. he's missed a few games now though. germyn has been filling in on the top line.

Don't like hearing that about Baldwin. Dude's future is not as a forward - he needs to be developing his game on the blueline. If there are too many dmen send him down to Vegas.

i actually kinda think signing brad brown was a bad move. earlier in the year we needed him because of injuries, but then we sign him just at the time everyone gets healthy. now we have 8 dmen on the roster. baldwin has been playing fwd and spang sits. and though i rail on spang a lot, hes fine as a bottom pairing guy. so i think brown was totally unecesary.

Yeah I guess your right. You know winning doesnt matter to us AHL fans we should be happy to see these guys skate in circles...

During the New Year's Eve game in Rockford, Chucko took a hit along the boards....I think it was in the 2nd period. He limped off the ice after the hit, but then came back to play the rest of the game. His skating didn't seem to be much impaired then.

But he hasn't played since.....

I agree with that.

Looking at the roster, the QC roster resembles (as it should, it is the farm team of the Flames), Calgary's prospects. Very good goalies, some pretty good Dmen and a lack of forwards. I understand that if Backlund, Nemisz and Wahl were there it'd be better, but the Flames in their prospect system don't really have a forward that you think will likely light the NHL up, especially without those recent draftees. A forward group lead by Lundmark, Chucko, German and Ryder wouldn't cut it at the start of the year and still doesn't.

I asked about Ryder when I interviewed Craig Devriez with the QC Times. I would tell you what he said but then you wouldn't tune in tomorrow to CP Radio to find out.

Yes - this was a shameless plug.

He gave a pretty even account - some negative things but in general a lot of the interview was quite positive.

fyi regarding chucko:

Quote:
Chucko, Cunning skate

Monday’s practice included both Kris Chucko and Cam Cunning, forwards sidelined recently by lower-body injuries.

One or both could be back in the lineup for tonight’s game vs. Lake Erie.

“They both actually had really good practices, and it was really encouraging,’’ McGill said.
