Similar in what way? Nothing is close to FC- it's pretty unique. Not to say it's my favourite place to go, but it's like asking for a drive in burger place like Peter's.

I think the OP *is* looking for unique, and thus I'm pretty sure MRCboicgy is spot on with Twisted Element. I'd say it's a clear winner and nothing more needs to be said.

I guess the best question is where in the city do you want to be? Downtown, NW, SW, SE?
If your looking for a kensington Hangout Sam's Deli off of Kensington Road is one of the best dive bars (easy going, no pressure of popum and circumstance). The Hopinbrew pub is also a good place off of 1st street (as long as you don't go on a night when the emo kids take over).

Ahhh....I used to be one of those kids. Except not emo. Just kinda drunk. I used to go almost every day after school in high school. I've gotta go back there for the memories, its too bad the friend I used to go there with is dead.
Another vote for the Point & Feather.
I also go to Governor's a fair bit as its very near my house and my soccer team used to practice across the street. Yes, as you may have guessed, I'm a lazy drinker.

Right. Petes Peanut Pub is also cool. But only during softball season and on every sunday night.
It was sweet before the province instituted that BS minimum drink price garbage and we lost our sweet deal. Basterds.

Funny, that's the same reason that I always end up at the Den or Kilkenny's

It WAS the Barley Mill, just off off MacLeod Trail on Canyon Meadows Dr, not to mention the best bartender ever(Eric). But she closed down in '01(became the Bull & Finch for a few years after, which wasn't near the same. Now I have no idea what it is).
I was always partial to Kilt & Caber, but I haven't lived in Calgary since just after the '04 play-off run so I'm sure there's a hundred new places I've never been, with the way that city expands. I get lost every time I come back.
