weird problem

Hey gang, hopefully someone here knows what this is and how to fix it.

You all know the annoying sound that pop ups make, well I have that sound constantly repeating itself. It sounds as if a lot of pop ups are trying to open, though nothing happens because all my pop up blockers are on. It even happens when I'm not online. Anyone ever heard of this??

haha, I can assure you I'm not hearing things in my head...

and when I did that quiz yesterday I was somewhere between 20 & 25.

I'm assuming you're running windows. Is the problem happening with XP or Vista?

Is it the IE pop up blocker sound, a Firefox pop up blocker sound, the google toolbar (or any toolbar) pop up blocker sound, or a different sound? (I know you might not know which it is, but seeing as all the different pop upblockers make slightly different sounds, it could help to know which one we're dealing with).

So, it constantly persists until you restart the computer? Once you restart, after Windows loads, at what point does the sound start playing again?

Have you ran any diagnostic or cleaning utilities to rule out spyware or other malware? I'd recommend CCleaner as a starting point.

I mainly run Firefox when using the net but I do have IE as well. I have both set up with their own respective pop up blocker. I'm going to run CCleaner and restart the computer and pay attention to see when the sound starts. I will post back in a little while. Thanks.
