Default Interesting tidbits that you just discovered... things that make you go "huh!"

How about a thread where we post tidbits of trivia or facts that we just found out that we did not know before?

I'll start...

"One Night in Bangkok" was written by the 2 guys in ABBA (music) and Tim Rice (lyrics) and that ABBA actually recorded a demo of it some years before its 1985 release by Murray Head?

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

"But what does it do?"
"Do? It doesn't DO anything - that's the beauty of it!"

Everybody seems to know this quote from somewhere, but it has yet to be has figured it out yet. The combined knowledge of nerds online has not figured this out, but most people seem to claim they have a very real sense of knowing this quote.

Seriously, try searching for the answer.

Finger Eleven used to call themselves the Rainbow Butt Monkeys.

I'd say that was a good change.

The popularly used quote is different and the degree to how widespread it is is even more mysterious given how obscure this source is.

My research indicates each of those lines is often used in various places.

Like each line was used in the Simpsons. "What does it do?" "It doesn't do anything" was when Mr. Burns gave them the big head after Bart gave him blood. And "That's the beauty of it" was used by Homer's brother when describing a car.

I discovered tonight that the minivan we just bought has a back-up camera. Seriously. Huge feature, my wife knew all about it. I must have had a stroke or something during that part of the sales pitch. I do remember smelling burnt toast while at the dealership.....

That a verbal agreement is just as legally binding as a written one. Up until last week I always thought that a verbal agreement was sort of...optional.

Bono, lead singer of U2, is the only person in the world to have been nominated for an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a Grammy and Nobel peace prize.

Lots of people have seen variations of this, but the first time when I was in my early teens that I saw just how vast the age of the earth was, in diagram form, it was an awe inspiring moment for me.

That's interesting. I like the Murray Head version, but I can't imagine ABBA performing it.

My tidbit ...Sutter's Mill where the 49er Gold Rush started was owned by a forefather to the Viking Sutters. He was a great-great uncle named John Augustus Sutter.
