Default New Xbox Experience (NXE) question

So, I've installed a couple games to my HDD. Now, do I have to specifically tell it to read off the HDD instead of the DVD or once a game is installed to the HDD, it automatically reads it off the HDD?

I havent been able to try it myself yet but I do know that it still needs to read off the disc on startup. After that it reads off of the data on your hard drive.

I would assume that you would access the file from a list of games somewhere, but admittedly I know absolutely nothing of the process.

How is the NXE?

NXE is okay, better than before, but a little too cartoony for my liking (but I'm not really the demographic they pander to anyway).

Yeah, well, there's a part where it has whats in the tray, and you can click on to play

or there is another box where it says "load from hdd"

I'm just wondering if when I put my disc in, (which is still mandatory to prove you own the game) once it realizes I own it, does it then automatically load from the DVD or the HDD? It doesn't tell you one way or the other.

I guess I would assume that it would load from the hdd. Should be fairly easy to test as there should be a big sound difference.

Exactly, I notice a huge difference in noise when I have a game playing to when I just have it running on the dashboard. The thing that sucks for me with this update is I only have a 20 gig HD so I'll only be able to install maybe one game at a time. I'm hoping to get a 120 gig HD at Christmas though.

Heres an article on the time savings for selected games after running from your hard drive

it appears saving to HDD screws up online play. Our entire team kept losing connections once inside a game. We all deleted off the HDD and played from the disc and not 1 problem again...

Yeah it's a bit kiddy the theme of it all. Hope we can mod it more, maybe get some game or movie or even sporting team tie-ins.

Dumb question and off topic, but how does one copy the files from old 20 GB HD onto new 120 GB so that all the progess and profiles you've made in your games won't be lost?

you can order a transfer cable from microsoft (might actually come with the new hard drive).

When I upgraded from a pro to elite, I transferred everything via memory card or redownloaded. Not fun.
