that is a beautiful thing.
I've owned more bikes than most people and have been very fortunate to not have any stolen.
Someone tried one day, taking my Redline BMX and putting it in the back of a pickup truck as I was in the store grabbing a Coke. I sprinted out and grabbed the bike out of the truck as it sat waiting to turn into traffic. It was one of the local bullies who claimed I "owed him money." I should have called the cops on the guy. I had to go back in the store and apologize to the person running the till as I had ran out without paying for my Coke. They were very understanding.

Ive never had my bike stolen (knock on wood), but someone jacked my snowboard at Big White in Kelowna two winters ago.

Why would someone steal a bike, then throw it in the dumpster the same day? They obviously didn't want it that bad...

Perhaps they believed you were a Godless heathen...

Thanks everyone for hating with me. I'm glad we can all agree on the 'slow, painful death for bike thieves' ideology. Was happy to see a few positive outcomes for some of you. I'm still fuming, and I know that will last for awhile. I'm going to see if my condo insurance will cover it since it was stolen from my condo's private property.

If have personal contents insurance for your condo, you should be covered. Your condo's insurance will probably specifically exclude something like a stolen bike.

Interesting point. I should have looked into this about 9 years ago when I had 2 mountain bikes stolen out of locked storage at my highrise condo. The stupid thing was, you needed to get the property manager to unlock the door for you and then you had a padlocked stall. The damn thieves just removed the stall door hinges and took the bikes. Obviously the property manager did think to look to see what they were doing.....

Dude who stole my bike ended up being found dead in the Cecil Hotel parking lot, his shoes having been removed.
Of course, this was like 20 years after the fact.

I had a nice mountain bike stolen out of my garage one winter. Didn't even realize it was gone until spring when I went to use it.
I only found out after the funeral of a friend of my roommates. My roommate owned up that the guy who was dead had stolen my bike.
In consideration of my roommates grief I did wait about 10 minutes to ask her to get my bike back.

I always see druggy looking losers crusing my neighbourhood on REALLY nice bikes. No way in hell they paid for those things with anything other than the 5 finger discount. It totally pisses me off, I stare them down everytime I see them digging through bushes underneath shoes hanging on telephone wires looking for drugs.
What the hell can you do about these guys?

Bankview.. near the corner of 14 st and 17 ave SW.
The result of enquiring about using my condo insurance, not worth it it seems. A stolen bike has a deductible of $500, so basically unless the bike was worth over $1000 then there's no point in making a claim.
