My infraction was for something that I don't think I deserved it for, but I don't really care about a yellow square.

I like the skill being gone, still wish for the post count to return.

Post count went somewhere? Do you mean visible under your avatar or something because I can see your post count in your profile under statistics.

Also what is up with the visitor messages? Just a byproduct of the new system or is it supposed to have a specific purpose.

BTW Redvan how does one properly demonstrate that they too also hate other drivers?

I have to admit, I was not a fan of the system even though I finally got my red square.

MOD edit: photon asked that people not discuss specific skill points.

FA edit: OK, sorry. Good thing we are not awarding skill points any more then! lol

To the point, I was just saying that the reason I didn't like the skill system was because it seemed to arbitrary, like figure skating scores or something.

I liked the idea though and what it was set out to accomplish. I also like the fact that CP took the time to judge the system it created.

Left you one too.

Ahh I get you.

Yeah, a feature of the new forum software.. Social networking is the new black so everyone thinks it's gotta be in their software.

We'll leave it as is for now, but as I said in my profile if this site turns into face so help me I'll drop the database.

I would have liked it if there was a set standard for what deserved negative and positive skill.

For example;

If you started a thread that gets 4 stars and last more than 5 pages, then you get positive skill.

If you create a video/image that is particularly clever, you get positive skill.

If you start statistics or game threads that involved extra effort, then you get positive skill.

If you become involved in an argument that causes the closure of a thread, then you get negative skill.

If you post pad, hurl insults at other posters, or spam, you get negative skill.

----------------

I guess that would take a fair bit of effort though, so it might not be worth it, but imo it beats the old arbitrary system. It was confusing to figure out why some people had positive skill and negative skill.

^That's pretty much how the old system worked. Despite what some believe we didn't hand out skill willy nilly either way. If folks worried less about their own post quality instead of how many squares some other person had or didn't have - it might have worked better.

The problem with skill was that it is arbitrary. A few people who liked each other, or got a laugh, got a red square. Or, not to mention, people who "did something for someone who is a skill giver" which is complete BS to be honest, and not what skill was intended for.

And to top it all off, I don't need a blue square telling me that some dumbass is usually a dumbass.

And all of that is completely false. That's not why people got skill at all.

I don't more what we can say - except that none of what you write is true.

This isn't frickin junior high - we didn't give skill out because we "liked each other".

The skill givers were moderators, so this is basically a shot at the people that run this board, and frankly it's insulting.

Let me add my 2¢ to this one. I know I did give out skill to people who gave away stuff that I received from time to time, but I also gave out skill to others who gave stuff away too. I even had posters PM me to say that somebody deserved skill for taking their offers of help off the board and went above the call of duty. This happened more than once- and the point of skill was to give a sense of community.

Sure, different mods had different ways of handing out skill. That will happen because we are humans and not robots. But when I gave out skill many times it was for one poster helping somebody else; as I spend a significant portion of time in the OT section and notice these things. Whether it was somebody writing a long post to help out a fellow poster, or somebody asking for a "fizzmotron" and another poster saying "I have one just lying around- you can have it"; I would like to have thought it was handed out evenly.

There were a number of posters who routinely pointed out skill worthy posts, and quite often we would act on those.

It wasn't a popularity contest. Otherwise there are a couple of posters who I consider to be good friends; and if it was about poularity they wouldn't have ended up with blue squares at the end of the skill program.
