Is anyone else having problems connecting? These last few months have been awful, it connects once in a while, but very rarely. I don't know what to do...
If Limewire isn't doing it for you anymore, you could give MP3 Rocket a shot. Based on a few open-source projects it is basically an improvement and re-issue of LimeWire/FrostWire's protocol and GUI.
I stumbled upon it recently and have found it to be quite a bit better than expected, though as you might imagine, it is still far from perfect.
That... or the newest version of BearShare is getting good reviews.
I think most service providers block the ports that the torrent downloaders normally use as defaults now... but using a different port will open things up again.
Note to self, when "The Fonz" starts a post with the works "My Computer is fracked" ignore, he uses limewire and should know better

I stopped using Limewire a few months ago when I switched to Frostwire...honestly, I haven't had any problems with it connecting at all. And it's basically the same as Limewire, only it's grey & blue instead of green & yellow.

Just to defend the Limewire people, we currently have it installed on my g/f's laptop. As long as you keep in mind that the first search result you will get is porn/spyware, you should be fine. We installed it on her laptop because I was also sure it was going to be Kazza all over again, but it really hasn't.
And for somebody who big into computers, she finds it nice and easy to use. It gets along fine with her iTunes, and I use it every once in a while when I discover there's yet another song from the 80's that I didn't already have on CD.
It's when you don't look at the bitrate (for example- when a song doesn't list the bitrate) that you run into the most trouble.
That all being said, I wouldn't install it on my main PC. But there is always something to be said for having a friendly interface to deal with.

Is that why my internet connection drops out after running UTorrent for an hour or so? I have to power cycle the modem and router then I'm back to normal.
Personally, I've always tried to follow a couple of rules when it comes to Napster\Kazaa\Morpheus\Gnucleus\Shareaza\BearShare \Ares\Azureus\MP3 Rocket ... (yikes, that's quite a list for me!).
#1. Download music only - preferably rarer tracks - with high bitrates (I prefer 192--256 kbps constant bit rate) and mostly complete/accurate track info.
#2. Never download any of the first 2-5 search results that come up.
#3. Leave all firewalls, anti-virus programs, etc. on while doing any downloading or uploading. [This step slows down transfer speeds, but with non-bloated security measures running in the background it isn't bad.]
These rules avoid the vast majority of sketchy material out there. I'm happy to say I've never had a virus after all these years (though I admit that I'm probably quite a bit more careful than most).
Also (not that it really matters), I can honestly say that I try very hard to "support the artists" even while downloading tunes. I've probably bought in excess of 500 CDs in my life and do not intend on stopping the purchases anytime soon. I can't say I'll end up buying the CD of every song I've downloaded over the years, but it always seems like the stuff I don't really like gets deleted before long anyways and I end up buying the CDs of the music I actually like eventually.
Beyond that, I like having the option to download single songs for $1 via legal avenues. Its a small price to pay for that one hit wonder artist you'd feel terrible buying a whole album of.
I do! Haven't you noticed everyone making fun of me for not being up to speed on the best ways to download music? That's because I don't do much of it. However, the song I'm looking for is unreleased. Seen Zack and Miri? It's from that movie, and I've checked every Live album and can't find it.

I downloaded bit-torrent, didn't know what the hell I was doing though. I found myself just going on google, and typing "Live - hold me up torrent". I've got a few songs this way, but it's a difficult process. Figured I must be doing it wrong...

I haven't had a problem downloading torrents on normal ports using shaw.
RE: That song that The Fonz is talking about ...
I found a link to it for anyone that is interested. Since I'm not sure about the legal ramifications of posting the link on the board (don't want to get CP or myself in trouble!), you'll have to PM me for the link.
Also: I haven't actually downloaded\listened to it, so I make no guarantees of it's quality or authenticity. I just found a mediafire link to the mp3 of it (allegedly).
I personally use Soulseek - no problems whatsoever
I also use Newsgroups for any full albums or what not that I think i need. But mainly I buy it online now.
