Not that I agree with the method, I would imagine that in the situation, the worst thing you could do while a police officer is trying to pull away your resisting buddy, is to put your hands on the cop.
It looks like to me that the cop went over the line, but in that sea of green, and as an authority figure, you can't know what's going to happen. Maybe the guy was just trying to get the cop's attention, but put his hands a little to close to the cop's gun. Doesn't look intentional, but with the cop's back to the fan, I'm sure all he felt was the tug at his vest.

Maybe a little extreme, but with his back turned and feeling a tug on his vest and a tug near his weapon, that's the kind of reaction you are going to get.
One thing everyone should know is that you never EVER put your hand to a police officer, that should just be common sense. Hell you should never put your hands on anyone, even during an argument (that almost started a few fights in the Fan Zone during the home opener).

No such thing as going over the line in that situation. You do NOT put your hands on a Cop, let alone a Cop in the middle of what could turn out to be a riot.

The tape doesn't show what happens before to get the first guy tossed out, but it sure looks like he is resisting... not fighting, but certainly not going along quietly. Then, his buddy makes the incredibly stupid decision to grab at the cop while his buddy is being dragged away. He grabs at his shoulder, and his hand slides down to near the belt (pepper spray, gun, radio, cuffs, etc.) and pulls at the vest. The cop reacts in, what I'd say, is a reasonable way - putting the guy down as fast as possible in a hostile environment.
Both green dudes should have spent the night in jail, and may face charges as well. Being drunk in public, even if you are at a game, is not really an excuse for being an a-hole.

Yes, it seems that Calgary Police seem to have no sense of humour when it comes to little friendly game of "got your gun- keep away!"
The person did grab the officer right at the gun holster. The officer had two choices, take the risk that the person did not indeed get the gun, and take the time to take inventory and assess the situation. Or option 2 was to put the guy down immediately.
Given how dangerous a gun in the hands of a drunk rowdy fan in a crowd would be, I say he made the right call.
And also having been in a position where I was called upon to reason with a police officer who had a friend in handcuffs with the officer having his weapon drawn, I can say that I have found the police to be reasonable if the situation is approached correctly.

a) You never touch a cop
b) You never touch a cop from behind
c) Most importantly, you never touch a cop anywhere near where he's got his gun/stick/pepper spray holstered.
The guys lucky to get out of there with only a couple punches thrown at him.
Someone should tell these Rider fans its not Corner Gas with the lovable dopey cops, welcome to reality, you're in the big city now.

Wow that wasn't over the line in any way. As Ken0042 said, if you're a cop and a guy grabs for your gun (intentionally or unintentionally), you have to take that guy down immediately.

Agreed. The idiot Rider fan got off easy. You flat out don't grab a cop near his gun holster when he's already in a hostile situation. That moron deserved a baton swat upside the head.

Good on the cop for acting in the best interest of all the drunken Rider fans around him too.
You NEVER EVER lay your hands on a cop, especially in a volatile, stressful situation like that, and you NEVER, EVER, EVER touch a cop's belt.
IMO those two drunken Rider morons got lucky they didn't get worse.

Good on the cop. See how scared that guy got when he saw the cop coming after him?

There should be more public demonstrations of supreme moral authority.
They should have taken him onto the field and let all of the Cops stomp on him at the same time.
It could be a kind of halftime show..."Who's house is this? Its OUR house!!" *STOMP*
Seriously though, poor judgement by the fan, and the Cop went off the handle. I would imagine it would have something to do with the fact that if the guy's hand went to weapon area of his belt, in a crowd like that the Cop cant know for sure whether or not the guy took his gun so, presumably in the interests of safety, he puts the guy down so he'd never get a chance to use it if he had.

I can't honestly see how anyone would consider this an overreaction by the cop. The guy came at the cop from behind and touched the belt that contains their pepper spray, gun, etc.
Regardless if the guy did it intentionally or not, he's a complete moron for attempting to stop the cop from taking the other idiot in green out.
Why does this garbage only happen at Rider games? I think the answer is pretty obvious.

Buddy nearly got beat up as bad as the Riders did that day!!
I agree with the others you don't touch a cop, don't touch a cop from behind and don't touch a cop by his gun holster. It could have been a lot worse considering these circumstances. I fault the Riders fan, not the CPS.

Cop was totally justified in what he did.
Don't act like a drunken d0uche, and you won't get in trouble. It's simple, really. And, DON'T EVER TOUCH A COP.
If your buddy is getting hauled out, he deserves it.
I was at that game- couldn't believe the number of fights that broke out in the last quarter. Cops and security were hauling people out left and right. It was crazy.
In all honesty, you could not pay me enough to deal with the people that cops deal with on a daily basis (drunken faux macho men with something to prove, domestic violence, drug dealers)....I'd probably just shoot first, ask questions later. Either that, or Taser.

I'll never understand why people fight cops. Yeah, they might be power tripping ######bags, but they have more friends than you do. With radios. And guns.
I'm surprised all he got was a tackle in a crowd of people. If I'm a cop and I see my partner getting pulled at, the baton comes out and he gets a swat to the knuckles or head, whichever is closest.

If there was no one else in that section other than RiderFan A, and RiderFan B... It would have been easier to escort out RiderFan A, but as well... this wouldn't have been a big issue as there were no 'innocent bystandards'.
I think the issue is; was the cop in the wrong for tumbling down 4 rows, on to other fans? He acted in the moment, and lost his ballance. If those fans were accepting to the demands of the officers, there would have been no issue.
If a cop tells me to sit down, I'm going to sit down. Period.
I actually don't like going to games where Saskatchewan is the visitor, as the experience is unpleasant. I can go to any other game, watch the Stamps win or lose, and still enjoy myself. But it seems that when the Riders come to town, there's so much hostility and ######edness in the stands from both sides, it ruins my experience.
