Granted I may not have my finger at the pulse of things in every state. After hearing people yelling out Terrorist and Kill him at McCain rallies, it leads me to believe that that isn't an isolated thing. I may be over stating the possibility but in certain states it may be an issue.

No, it's not.
In certain households it is an issue. Some organized uprising? No chance.
You folks have heard a few loonies shouting stupidity and you think they represent some tangible part of American society. Unreal.

Yeah, it's pretty wacky. Jeez, we have active white supremacist groups here in Calgary. Do I think it is representative of Calgary outside of a few dozen people? No, because I'm not an idiot.

Thinga are psychotic enough when you can't get to your money..or food .... after a hurricane. Just look at those scenarios. Hopefully this is all just a coincidence and we're being a bit paranoid.

Not saying this is going to happen of course...but I can remember white supremacists holding practically a whole city here hostage for a day. So I can picture a few isolated incidents.

Yeah, when a handful of psychos set off a fertilizer bomb... Don't get me wrong, I've read The Turner Diaries for a class, I am aware that there is a wacky racist element in the United States. It's just tiny and under-funded and probably ridiculous.

Let's not forget that there are over two months between the election and the inauguration.
If or more likely when Obama wins the election, that's two months before he's in charge of this unit, and for cooler heads to prevail.

Sheesh.....

I didn't imply they were implementing an account freeze, I'm saying doing so would cause problems.

Honestly, after thinking about it again.....I really have no idea what the unit would do to deal with a 'crisis.'
The NG would be called in to deal with the crisis.
As for a 'special' unit.....the FBI can deal with it.

Yeah they're a bunch of idiots. but things were so weird here during the time of the incident I'm talking about that..... I got beaten up because I'm blond and I was wearing Doc Marten boots!!!! They thought I was a Neo-Nazi because of that. So I guess I'm a liittle irrational about the whole thing due to that memory. But I proudly sport my Docs and bleach blond mane today...which sometimes causes me to face a different kind of "prejudice"

I am certain it has to do with Federal lands versus State lands. Washington DC I believe does not have its' own National Guard and has to rely on other States. I may be wrong. But there is an example where a Federal force would be needed.
FBI is law enforcement and not capable of dealing with crowd control.

And this 'one' unit would be capable?

I hear it is a very capable unit.
Seriously, I would assume it there as extra support in some incident.

I think there would more likely be an uprising if Obama lost than if he won.

As I mentioned before, it makes more sense to me that this is a move to prevent problems in case of a greater economic collapse. But as I also mentioned earlier, the fact that it is only ONE unit makes me think that that may not be the answer either.
I'm thinking they are expecting something else entirely. Definitely something to watch closely.
Perhaps there is some high level meeting they expect in a large city in the states sometime soon? Maybe an emergency meting because of the current economic crisis?

This is truly weird, and scary, because it's really difficult to come up with a good reason for this. The US has the national guard to deal with stuff inside the country, and for a good reason actually.
Troops that have been stationed in a warzone for three years are going to be much more prone to shoot before thinking. One can only hope this is not why those troops are wanted in the US.
EDIT: Although now that I think of it, because of the non-classical style of warfare in Iraq, the troops there have received quite a bit of training for dealing with citizens in non-violent ways. Also since so many national guard units have also been placed in Iraq, the difference between an army unit and a national guard unit is not what it used to be propably.
I could see this as a combination of logistics ("we need troops in the US because there could be unrest") and a slight slip-up because the people in charge haven't been thinking about the symbolical difference between those two types of troops.
Either that or the right wing is going to steal the election, and they feel these guys are the best to protect them in case people don't buy the results of the election. Unfortunately, this is not an impossible scenario in my eyes.
If the polls start to show weird uncoherency (meaning that some pollsters with right leaning tendencies suddenly start to make this election look a lot closer than it seems right now), start worrying.

Most National Guard troops have been stationed in war zones at least some time in the last 6 years.
Just saying.
Your election stealing theory is as crazy as the racist uprising theory. I'll just leave it at that. You guys can continue to indulge your silly preconcieved notions about the States. I'm getting used to it.

Maybe....just maybe....the intelligence agencies in the US have received some sort of information on a possible event that would require a military tactical response within its own borders.
You see....these intelligence agencies dont generally share a whole lot of information with the public at large...and for very good reason.
just a possibility.
