They didn't, the JP did when I went to appear.

The cops did treat me more than fairly though. The could have given me a standing 24hr suspension, towed my car, given me like 6 failure to signal tickets, a ticket for having a cracked license (which is like $400) on top of the speeding ticket but they didn't. Just the speeding ticket and one failure to signal.

I did get a field sobriety test and spent about 40 mins in the back of the cruiser while they wrote it all up.

Scared the crap out of me when I looked in my rearview and saw a car flying up behind me and I was going 130.

I think 650 after all was said and done. It was lowered to 55 over so I got the max. demerits. I jokingly asked if I could plead guilty as the registered owner, for some reason the JP didn't have the same sense of humor as me...

I also was given a failure to signal at the same time, which brought it up to the 650.

This happened 4 years ago so I am pretty sure I am not getting the increase.
IME you got off lucky. 10 years ago I got tagged doing 132 in an 80 zone, ticket was 200, victims services fee was 627. Pissed me the hell off.

I got demerits, but since that is the only traffic fine I have ever gotten my insurance didnt go up and now I pay a ridiculously low monthly rate.

Usually if you are up front and honest cops tend to give you a break. That and the time of night you probably weren't a threat to other drivers safety.

I got pulled over going 150 up Shaganappi hill north of John Laurie Blvd. around 2 in the afternoon. Its an 80 zone, I got off with a warning and a call to my parents :P I was 18 at the time and driving their car. Mom freaked out dad told me to be smarter about my speeding next time

I wondered how long it'd take for someone to bring my name up. I was at school all day so I didn't get a chance to weigh in quite yet.

Warp speed would be good, because then everyone would go the same speed and there'd be no messing around. Of course we'd all crash at the end of the warpspeed thing because the idiots who shat their pants on it would slam the brakes. But if there was such a thing like a HOV lane but for speeders, that'd be awesome. Separate us from regular traffic and give us 2 lanes. One lane for driving, one lane for passing (or even periodic passing lanes like on the highway) but put a MINIMUM speed. That'd be awesome, but then we'd have the reverse problem of slow guys going in it. But then they could get tickets for going too slow.

Too bad that is a crack dream. Plus, people are supposed to move right for vehicles going faster than them now, and they don't do it. GRR!

Yes but that is SOOOOO illegal and the guy should go to jail forever. How dare he be such a menace to society. OMG what a criminal, he is just as bad as those pedophiles. I am shocked no one has written that yet, except not in green. Like my green/oragne combo?

I think you deserve a ticket for that one, if you get caught. 130 in a 60 zone, ouch. 100, maybe no ticket just a warning...

lol i was in a group that got stuck behind a guy going from 85-95 in the left lane the ENTIRE length of deerfoot the other day.

One truck was on his ass so hard I coulda swore they exchanged some paint, a Element got tired of waiting and passed on inside and cut literally less then a foot infront of him without signaling.

I myself after following right behind him for 10k(such a big queue behind me to undertake him i didn't get a chance), stuck with just flashing my highbeams a few times as we passed the signs which say slower traffic keep right. Though in hindsight maybe the guy missed the signs because i was distracting him

ohhh well the guy is still a ######

It's got to be scary as a cop stepping onto Deerfoot to pull someone over.

Constable Sonnenberg was killed on the Deerfoot laying down a spike strip. I am sure most Calgarians remember it, but I thought I would bring it up.

There was a large gathering of police and a HAWC flyby last night at the site of Sonnenberg's memorial last night for the 15 year anniversary... it was pretty impressive.

And the drunk guy jaywalking who is too wasted to realize someone is coming at 130 km/h.

You can never know that it is safe to speed. I speed myself all the time but I don't kid myself that my omnipotent powers of driving somehow exempt me from the laws of probability. The whole thing about accidents is that you don't see them coming, else you'd avoid them, wouldn't you?

That was quite awhile ago:

http://origin.www.cbc.ca/canada/stor...ape981122.html

I couldn't find anything saying he had ever been recaptured.

There was this related story, just recently:

Quote:
Prokop is well known to police. He is from Calgary, and CTV News has learned he was involved in one of the darkest days in the history of the Calgary Police Force.

Through our searches, we have discovered that Prokop was in the passenger seat of the vehicle that ran down and killed Constable Rick Sonnenberg in October of 1993.

Prokop was 18-years old at the time. He was in a stolen vehicle that was trying to evade police. It struck and killed Sonnenberg as he was attempting to lay out a spike belt on Deerfoot Trail.

That was 15 years ago this month. Prokop has been in and out of jail ever since. When he was arrested for Aman's murder, he was in custody in Milton, Ontario, for what police say is a non-violent criminal matter.

If you mean ridiculously slow, then yes, it is ridiculous these days. I've never seen the Deerfoot so slow moving and non-functional (ie people clogging up the left lane and backing up traffic) as it's been in the last year or so.

Thats the most radar action I have seen on Deerfoot in a long time. I am loving my Radar jammer now(worth the investment), otherwise I may have been one of the guys being pulled over.

I agree with Flameswin, although not as bad as years ago, there is still a high amount of drivers going too slow in the left lane. Its as if some of these guys/gals have never driven on a freeway before. I dont find Deerfoot any faster than any other major thoroughfare in other larger cities. The 401 at night is faster(day is too packed) and the major routes in Mtl are certainly quicker. Perhaps its because most people in those cities are certainly aware of the left lane concept.

They just had an article in the Metro and someone at the UofC showed that giving out tickets actually does over the long term reduce average sppeds along roads and it works with both photo tickets and real tickets. So it really isn't just a tax grab but an effective safety technique

I love how the media skews the numbers to make a bigger splash. On Global's ticker this morning it said something like "Speeders on Deerfoot average 32 km/h over limit." When really that was the average speed of speeders who got tickets. I'm sure there were a lot of other people who were doing around 105; still speeding- but we won't use those numbers to make this "average."

Global sensationalize something?!? Perish the thought. I get nauseated by their over the top coverage.

Ever been to Germany? $16/day total coverage means you can have as much fun as you want in a rental car...down the Autobahn!

I used to live there, imagine an 11-seater VW mini-van doing 175km/h loaded up with the whole family for vacation, and still being passed at warp speed by Ferrari's doing over 260!!! And yes, they do in fact give tickets for going to slow.

TV and printed Newspapers are so obsolete...
