Deerfoot speed crackdown
They should get more cops hassling speeders on the Deerfoot rather than hassling people who have dog license warrants.

Subject: TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT ON DEERFOOT TRAIL x 130 AVENUE S.E.
From: Duty Inspector
-----BEGIN MD5 -----------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------
CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The Calgary Police Service recognizes that Calgarians have
expressed ongoing concerns for traffic safety as it relates
to excessive speed on Deerfoot Trail. Consequently, on
October 05, 2008, members of the Calgary Police Service
Traffic Unit conducted a speed enforcement initiative on
Deerfoot Tr. x 130 Ave. S.E.
The targeted enforcement lasted for approximately a five hour
period of time during the afternoon. During this time a
total of 135 traffic violation tickets were issued; of which
103 were issued for exceeding the posted limit of 100 kph.
The highest recorded speed was 201 kph; with the average of
all speeding violations issued being 132 kph.

My face is a bum!

201? That's impressive. The fact the average was 132 says they probably weren't being dinks about it either. You usually don't see very many people above that, so I'm guessing they weren't bothering with the 110-115 people.
It's got to be scary as a cop stepping onto Deerfoot to pull someone over.

I drove by the "operation" Sunday morning on my way to the Home Depot on 130th. They had a dude with a laser gun standing on the 130th overpass, and about 10 cop cars down by the McKenzie exit. I guess dude on the bridge would radio down and the cars would pull the speeders over.
When I passed them on the way back home, they easily had 7 or 8 cars pulled over.

Actually they were. I happened to by going by, saw the cops, and noticed I was somehow doing exactly 100. (whew!) Somebody passed me in the left lane and he couldn't have been doing more than 115. Cops pulled him over anyways.
It was impressive to see. About 7 or 8 cops using those "do not enter" roadside turnouts. As soon as once cop took off after a car there was another one waiting to take his place at the front of the line with radar.
edit- Actually, psicodude's explanation makes sense now. Odds are the car I saw was going faster before 130th, and then slowed down when he saw the cars parked on the side of the road.

As cars become more and more futuristic pod-like things (Toyota Yaris), and everyone keeps driving faster and faster, soon things will be like F-Zero and RedVan can have those warp-speed boosters installed on the Deerfoot.

Good, That clown doing over 200 needs to have his/hers licence taken away. I wish they would do more than a 1 day blitz though. I know it took a lot of man power but Deerfoot is rediculous these days.

Which is worse? 201 on deerfoot in a 100 or 130 in a 60? Because they didn't take my license away for the latter. My insurance didn't even go up...

Crowchild trail at kensington. It was 3am.
Cop: 'Do you know what the speed limit is?'
Me: 'uhhhh, well, ...'
Cop: 'It sure as fata isn't 130'
They were pretty nice to me actually, after the threw me in the back of the cruiser. I was sober which they probably were not expecting.

Anyways first trip down there saw 7 people pulled over between blackfoot and seton blvd alone. 5 of which were between 130th and 22x.

You should have got a court summons. Depending on how often your insurance comany checks your record the increase could still be coming.
What did your fine end up beiing? Close to 1000$?

Yeah, I did get the pink ticket without a number on it, just a date.
I think 650 after all was said and done. It was lowered to 55 over so I got the max. demerits. I jokingly asked if I could plead guilty as the registered owner, for some reason the JP didn't have the same sense of humor as me...
I also was given a failure to signal at the same time, which brought it up to the 650.
This happened 4 years ago so I am pretty sure I am not getting the increase.

I could see someone doing what you were doing at 3am. Probably no one on the road except you and that police car.
