There's a difference between doing those things, and complaining and looking for sympanthy when you get caught.

I am curious which dog park you go to. I have gone to 5-6 here in Calgary and find them quite spacious.
I'll assume you are exagerating on the postage stamp size...possibly then you have also exagerated on the number of dogs present?
I have encountered a good number of dogs at the one at Southland and Deerfoot, but it's big enough to handle it. I usually go to a quieter one near Optimist athletic Park. Large enough, and usually 0-5 other dogs. On a Saturday afternoon, maybe there will be 10-15.
I am not perfect (pretty close though), I have my dog off leash behind my house at least twice a week. It is a steep hill leading to a pathway. There are four houses in a row all with labradors. We all do it, we all pick up after our dogs. I fully expect someone will complain one day, and eventually I will get a ticket.
When that time comes, I will be sad to see the money go but pay it. I know what I am doing is wrong, I also see that know one is getting hurt by it. BUt that no one has been hurt or disturbed by it, doesn't mean I shouldn't get the ticket.

This annoys me to no end, and I have occasionally ended up taking him to the "no dog zone" for a play at the end of the day, so far no one has complained or busted me. As for the bylaw officers, our new neighbour, who rents the house next door, has managed to accumulate a very impressive pile of garbage in his yard since June, and despite my calls to the city, nothing has been done. This guy has threatened my husband, and nailed blue plastic sheeting to our fence so we can't "see" him. Which is the bigger problem to the city? Dogs playing ball or some psycho who collects garbage and threatens people?? Sorry for the rant as my first post, had to get it off my chest.

also, what others may or may not have done in terms of breaking the law have no bearing on your own case, I don't understand why people who get caught always say "so-and-so is doing this-and-that, why don't you go ticket them instead of me?" It makes zero sense because whether others are caught or not, it still doesn't change the fact that you did.

It was a warning to save others the headache. Sorry for giving the whole story. I thought a warning would suffice. obviously too much to ask for some. 2:00pm and the policing continues. sorry for looking for sympathy. Bring Back Argument
I'll just pay the fine to make Shantz and Incinerator happy with me. Hope nobody ever has their dog off leash again. Those guys will get you, and don't ask for sympathy here ever!

I don't think the issue (or the bylaw) is "endangering". The issue is "taking a dump on the field that is designed for humans to play baseball on".
Now clearly no CP poster/dog-owner would ever think to not pick up their dog's feces, but not everyone is as noble and virtuous as this crowd.
And besides that, if I was to play baseball on a field that dogs were allowed on, and I had a 100% guarantee that all dog feces had been picked up by conscientious owners, I really don't know if I'd be completely satisfied.
"Sure, dogs crap all over that field all the time, but the owner had a Safeway bag on his hand, and he picked it up".
It's just not comforting to know that it was "picked up".
In fact, I'd go so far to say it's discomforting.
Discomforting in the same way it would be if I went to visit someone for the weekend and they said "you can sleep in the spare room. I ate too much Taco Bell and had an accident in there last night, but I washed the sheets, so it's all good".

Bingo. They're sports fields/playground areas. Who wants themselves or their kids to play on something that's been shat or urinated on by someone's pet? That's why the rule is in place.

ignoring driving and focussing on the dog- I understand the law but for a responsble dog owner the fact that there was no one around means that it should be fine despite the possibility of quick changes. I think he should fight the ticket if he can!

I'll try to illustrate my point a little more clearly.
Let's say a couple ball teams get together and decide to play baseball. The field is 5 minutes down the road, but there's a big old dog park right across the street. There are no dogs around, so what's the harm? Nothing! No harm at all. The park isn't in use by dogs, so play ball! They play the game, have a great old time, and during the 7th inning stretch the short-stop takes a dump over by third base. They finish up the game, gather up all the stuff and go home.
Would this bother dog owners who use the park? I'll bet it would, but why? They weren't using the park when the ball game was going on.

Sorry for late response GGG, I missed Q.
Ummm I guess he didn't have a right... the dog was in back yard at the time and barked at him when he went and looked so he knew it was there and it is very distinctive looking dog, black aphghan?sp?... When he came to the door he had had a major attitude demanded to see the dog's tags... he acted like he had every write to ask. He gave me the ticket while standing on my front deck. He was a dick the entire time and personified the word ######bag. I have been told by others peeps simiiar things as what you just said and next time one of them shows up perhaps I'll just close the door in his face while whistling a cheery toon, but I didn't know at the time and fighting the ticket when the cops showed up was kind of not an option anymore. As for earlier I had handed ticket to my friend. It was his dog. I pretty much forgot about it after that. Then the cops showed up. who knew a pink dog ticket turned into an arrest warrent certainly not me. I stupidly assume logic plays a role in the lives we lead.

I agree that having animals in a sports area is not cool. I wouldn't want to be looking to catch a pop-fly and slip backwards stepping on dog s***, for example.
Heres a grey area though, camping.
I'm in a generic campground, say Carsland. Is it a by-law that I keep my dog on the leash, or park rules? Because it seems to me that all the dogs I see camping that are not on the leash are very well behaved, and regardless of "park rules" I have never heard of a fine being issued.

Why did you show him your ID?
He isnt a cop, he isnt even a mall security guard, he is a bylaw officer.

Unless it's a city owned campground bylaws don't apply in this case.
If it's a provincial or Parks Canada campground then there likely are laws that govern this.
If it's a privately owned campground then leash laws wouldn't apply.

I live in the NW, Cambrian Heights. We have a lot of green space here, but not a lot of options for off leash. Postage stamp was a bit of an exaggeration, but the park I speak of is by Queen's Park cemetary, and it is quite crowded. We tried Nose Hill, but had an incident with a less than friendly dog and it's owner, so we didn't go back. I won't let him run if I see anyone in the park by our community hall, but I do think with all the available green space in our neck of the woods, they could create more dog areas. I also believe that if you are caught, a first time warning should be given, x2 should be a fine.
