Default Tow Companies.

I need my car towed somewhere for next Tuesday, does anyone have experience with the tow companies in Calgary? I have heard some bad things about City Wide, any information would be appreciated.

City Wide is a rip off.. My buddy recently paid $200 to have his car towed 5 km.

If you use them once a year the membership (~$80) pretty much pays for itself.

Make sure you get the plus membership vs the regular. The regular only allows for around 5km towing while the plus allows for around 100km. Well worth the 20 buck IMO. I'm probably still saving money from the time I had to get my vehicle towed from Lake Louise. That one time saved me enough money to buy memberships for a few years.

Seconded! Something like $75 and towing for the first 100km's is free.

I got raped by City wide once...they said "50 cents km" or something like that and didn't even mention the $80 4wd hook up fee, the $40 call fee, etc. next thing I know I'm stuck with a $150 tow bill for a 10 min. tow.

Just a few things with AMA:

- Memberships aren't $75; that's the renewal price. Base price is $84, plus is $117.
- Plus memberships cannot be purchased for pre-existing conditions. Maybe you can use it and get away with it, maybe not.

Myself, I call independant tow truck operators and ask for a quote over the phone. Tell them it's a cash job, and I don't need a receipt. Kevman gave an example of a 10 minute tow job costing $150- well my last tow job was 120 km, and by paying cash I paid $240.
