Default Four Days in LA

Hey, so I'll be going to LA for 4 days next week and am staying in a hostel in West Hollywood, as on Thursday I'll be attending a concert in Griffith Park.

I need some fairly inexpensive restaurant/bar ideas somewhere in the area (as I'll be using transit). Also another question, has anyone been to the Fashion District? I was told I have to go there if I love clothes, but not sure if its worth a whole day.

One of the days I definitely want to be on a beach, although Im not sure which one, again any suggestions are welcome.

The guys wearing the red bandana's are the tour guides...they are everywhere. Just ask them if you get lost.

For you Chid, I'll have my sister and her husband hook you up. They live a little bit north of west Hollywood. They took me to beaches at Santa Monica and Manhattan beach. Sister loves to shop.

Not sure exactly what you're getting at, but if you haven't been to LA before In-N-Out burger is a MUST and I highly recommend Del Taco. They are both everywhere and both should fit your budget. Bars? No clue other than the mainstays like The Whiskey. I haven't lived there in 16 years now so all the places I went are probably gone....and none of them were anywhere near West Hollywood because I'm not insane.

All the beaches are good really. They all have something to offer. If you're looking for atmosphere, go to Venice. If you're looking for women go to Orange County. If you're looking for surf go to Malibu and points north.

Well, I would consider this place a hidden gem.

http://losangeles.citysearch.com/review/210799/1959770

It's a bit of a ride from W. Hollywood though...and 16 years ago it wasn't the greatest neighborhood, but that may have changed with the new stadium and associated development. My Dad eats there quite a bit as he works close by at the Conoco refinery in Carson (That's where I worked when I lived in LA).

You could also visit the original Wienerschnitzel in Wilmington!

Again, a far piece from Hollywood, but if you're looking to experience something that is truly LA this is another way to go. Great location right on PCH.

Sorry, I'm just reminiscing a little bit!

The farmer's market is a great place to go to eat or shop or just hang out. There's an amazing brazilian rotissary place there in the food stalls.

You're also not that far via transit from the Getty Center.

And going the other way, at the east end of Sunset Blvd is the Silver Lake area, which has some great offbeat shops and boutiques, including the world's most elegant comic book shop, Secret Headquarters. Also check out Reform School and Giant Robot and a fantastic cheese store, the name of which escapes me, also in the Silver Lake area.

For something a little more oddball and wonderful, there's the Museum of Jurassic Technologies, which includes, among other things, a portrait gallery of Dogs of the Russian Space Program.

If you get to Venice, check out Obsolete, another weird store of wonderful collections.

And if I remember correctly, it's really close to a great pub, the Library Alehouse.

Those are pretty much all my favorite spots in LA. It's actually a great city with some amazing places; it's just the getting around that sucks.

It was 101 F and she took me to all these cool shops and used bookstores in Pasadena. The best part was the air conditioned stores.. A long day of shopping in that heat...you know I am not exactly svelte...it was painful.

I'm not the best, my sister is. I will email you the details, but she's willing to take you out shopping, willing to put you up in her house, willing to lend you her car.

If you ever find yourself on the Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Beach....stop at a place called Taco Loco. It will litereally be one of the best meals you will ever have in your life.

Just came back from Orange County. For cheap eats El Torascos (or similar spelling) was really good. The Super burrito for $8 would fill most mortals and might be 2 meals for some. My understanding is they are basically near every beach in the area. We were at the one in Newport Beach served by a waitress who had a rather Bif Naked look to her. Thumbs (et al) up.

I would go to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, but I am clearly a geek.
